ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY SUMMARY
: The Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is currently searching for three Part-Time Student Directors for the Mitchell C. Hill Student-Run Data Center (SDC) and the Student Security Operations Center (SOC) to work under the supervision of faculty advisors, Mr. Curtis Carpenter, Dr. Indira Guzman and Dr. Weijun Zheng.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO
(this is just a small sampling of work variety): The Student Executive Directors of the Student Data Center (SDC) and Security Operations Center (SOC) serve in key leadership roles, supporting the operations, outreach, and educational mission of both centers.
Their responsibilities include:
Operational Leadership:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the SDC and SOC in collaboration with center directors and the university's IT department, ensuring alignment with university policies and technical standards.
Team Management:
Lead and supervise student teams responsible for managing the infrastructure and services provided by the SDC and SOC.
Training Oversight:
Design, implement, and manage training programs to ensure that student staff and volunteers are well-prepared to support center functions.
Collaboration:
Coordinate activities with center members, student clubs (e.g., SWIFT and SOC), cyber competition teams, faculty advisors, and the IT department to foster a collaborative and engaged environment.
Outreach and Representation:
Represent the centers in outreach activities, marketing initiatives, and university events to promote awareness and student involvement.
System Monitoring:
Monitor the cybersecurity health and operational status of systems within the Mitchell C. Hill Student Data Center.
Faculty and Student Support:
Provide timely technical and instructional support to faculty and students who use the SDC and SOC infrastructure for coursework, assignments, and research projects.
Documentation:
Maintain clear and accurate documentation of operational procedures, configurations, and activities within both centers.
Additional Duties:
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by faculty advisors to support the strategic goals and daily needs of the SDC and
SOC. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
At least junior standing in an academic program at Cal Poly Pomona. 1+ year's SIEM system experience. Proven record of leadership in student co/extra-curricular activities. Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills. High degree of professionalism, work ethic and team player. Excellent problem solving and organizational skills, detail oriented. Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material. Ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines. Great customer service skills.
PREFERRED
Experience with cybersecurity competitions. Students will be expected to work with a minimum of 8 hours a week and a maximum 15 hours a week. Additional hours may be approved upon need.
