POSITION OVERVIEW
The Partnership for Public Service is seeking a junior data scientist (associate manager) to join a growing data team supporting the organization's mission. As the Partnership expands our data product offerings, this role will be a critical contributor to building our internal capacity. This role will support all stages of data product development and the data science lifecycle, from data cleaning and exploratory analysis to visualization and model development. This position is ideal for someone with experience in statistical analysis using Python/R/SQL, data science, and/or data engineering. A successful candidate will also have experience working across multiple workstreams and in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct statistical analysis and model development using proprietary Partnership data and federal administrative/statistical data. With guidance from the data science manager, engage in data collection, ETL and EDA in support of data product development. Create documentation and training materials for internal use. Collaborate with teams across the organization to address data science and engineering needs.
KEY COMPETENCIES
Ability to conduct data cleaning, analysis and/or visualization in Python, R or SQL. Ability to document technical processes and create resources for non-technical users. Excellent attention to detail, quality and value. Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills. Adept at working in a fast-paced and high-energy environment. Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, share data-driven insights with non-technical audiences, and connect the organization's strategic priorities to analytical work. REQUIRED/PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of two to four years of relevant, full-time work experience in data science, data analysis or a related field. Bachelor's degree, or equivalent professional work or military experience. One to two years of experience with Python, R or SQL required. Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks or comparable cloud-based platform preferred. Experience with federal workforce, spending and/or performance data preferred. Federal, state, local or tribal government and/or non-profit experience preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/REPORTING STRUCTURE
This position is an associate manager role and will report to the data science manager on our Communications and Public Engagement team. This position may supervise interns in the future.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a hybrid (remote + office) environment in Washington, DC. The successful candidate must be a permanent resident in the Washington, DC, Maryland or Virginia area. The person in this role is expected to work in the office, on average, three days per week - with Wednesday as the required day in-office. This position requires consistent use of office equipment such as computer, telephone, printer/scanner and MS Office. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This position is full-time and classified as exempt from overtime pay. Official business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern, though the Partnership allows flexibility in work schedules. Occasional evenings or weekend activities may be required. TRAVEL If travel occurs, it is usually during the business day. Very little out of the area and/or overnight travel may be required. SALARY The starting salary range for this position is $62,500 - $65,500. The Partnership offers a compensation package that includes a competitive salary; medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; long- and short-term disability insurance; a 401(k) program with a 4 percent employer match; opportunities for training and development; commuter benefits; 15 days of annual leave per year, 10 days of sick leave per year, plus all federal holidays and the day after Thanksgiving off; and use of an on-site exercise facility.
