at Insight Global in Schiller Park, Illinois, United States Job Description Job Description We are seeking an Observability & Monitoring ( APM ) Engineer to design, implement, and maintain our enterprise-wide application performance monitoring ( APM ) and observabilityplatforms. This role is critical in ensuring the health, reliability, and performance of our applications and infrastructure. The engineer will partner closely with developers, site reliability engineers (SREs), DevOps, and operations teams to build best-in-class monitoring practices and improve visibility across the technology stack.
Key Responsibilities APM Tool Management:
Own and administer enterprise APM platforms (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, Dynatrace, AppDynamics). Define, implement, and maintain monitoring dashboards, alerts, and service-level objectives (SLOs). Integrate APM solutions with CI/CD pipelines, logging platforms, and incident management tools.
Observability Strategy:
Drive adoption of observability best practices across applications, services, and infrastructure. Ensure consistent instrumentation of applications (metrics, logs, traces). Establish and refine standards for monitoring, alerting thresholds, and data retention policies.
Operational Excellence:
Proactively detect and resolve performance bottlenecks, anomalies, and system failures. Collaborate with SRE , DevOps, and development teams during incident response and postmortems. Optimize monitoring configurations to reduce alert fatigue and increase actionable insights.
Collaboration & Enablement:
Act as a subject-matter expert ( SME ) in observabilityand monitoring. Provide training, documentation, and guidance to engineering teams on instrumenting code and leveraging APM tools. Work with product and engineering leadership to align observability goals with business outcomes. Skills and Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. 3-5+ years of experience in system monitoring, observability, or APM engineering. Hands-on experience with at least one leading APM /observability platform (Datadog, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or New Relic). Strong knowledge of logging, metrics, and tracing frameworks (e.g., OpenTelemetry, ELK stack, Prometheus, Grafana). Experience with cloud platforms ( AWS , Azure, GCP ) and containerized environments (Kubernetes, Docker). Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex systems. Excellent communication skills to collaborate across engineering, operations, and leadership teams.
