Senior Data Architect Introduction Akumen, Inc. delivers mission-focused technology, data, and cybersecurity services that help federal clients modernize operations, improve decision-making, and achieve measurable outcomes. Our goal is to provide secure, scalable, and innovative service delivery that aligns technical execution with client mission priorities. Overview Akumen is seeking a Senior Data Architect to support a federal data and analytics program. This position provides senior-level leadership for enterprise data architecture, data management, and solution design efforts supporting cloud-based and advanced analytics environments. The role is responsible for evaluating current-state systems, defining future-state architecture, and ensuring data solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with client mission objectives. Key Responsibilities Lead enterprise data architecture, data modeling, and integration strategy for analytics, warehousing, and reporting environments. Evaluate existing systems and design target-state data solutions that improve interoperability, governance, and performance. Define and maintain architecture documentation, including data flows, standards, lineage, and interface specifications. Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, and engineers to align technical solutions with mission and operational needs. Guide implementation of best practices for ETL/ELT, metadata management, data quality, and cloud data architecture. Minimum Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field. Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in data architecture, data management, or solution architecture. Demonstrated expertise in enterprise data modeling, data integration, ETL/ELT, and architecture documentation. Experience designing and implementing cloud-based data solutions in enterprise environments. Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP-Associate) or equivalent DMBOK-aligned certification, plus a data modeling or data architecture certification. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field. Experience supporting federal data modernization or large-scale analytics programs. Hands-on experience with Databricks, AWS, and enterprise data warehouse/lakehouse platforms. Strong knowledge of data governance, metadata, lineage, and master/reference data practices. Experience mentoring technical teams and leading architecture review sessions. Clearance Requirement Must possess an active Secret security clearance or higher , or have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance or higher in accordance with contract requirements.
