Database Architect

Job Description We are seeking an experienced Database Architect to design, implement, and manage scalable database solutions using AWS and Snowflake technologies . The ideal candidate will have strong experience with cloud database architecture, SQL optimization, automation, and data processing services . Key Responsibilities Design and architect scalable, secure, and high-performance database solutions . Utilize AWS database and data processing services such as Amazon RDS, AuroraDB, DynamoDB, Redshift, ElastiCache, EMR, and Neptune . Configure, launch, and manage EMR clusters , optimizing performance and cost. Integrate databases with AWS services such as Lambda, S3, EC2, and Glue . Implement AWS security best practices including IAM roles, encryption, VPC, and security groups. Design backup, disaster recovery, high availability, and failover solutions (Multi-AZ, read replicas). Write and optimize complex SQL queries for analytics, transformation, and reporting. Design and manage Snowflake virtual data warehouses . Monitor and troubleshoot AWS database related incidents. Ensure compliance with SSA security and data management policies . Provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level developers . Communicate effectively with management, customers, and cross-functional teams. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field. 7+ years of experience as a Database Architect . Strong experience with AWS database services (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, EMR, Neptune, ElastiCache). Knowledge of AWS security best practices (IAM, encryption, VPC, security groups). Experience in SQL query optimization, caching, clustering, and performance tuning . Experience with automation and scripting tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, AWS CLI, Python, Bash, or PowerShell . Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Must be able to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance . Willing to work onsite in Woodlawn, MD (5 days/week) . Required Skills Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases , data modeling, schema design, and normalization. Experience managing EMR clusters and integrating multiple data sources. Expertise in backup, disaster recovery, high availability, and failover solutions . Advanced experience writing complex SQL queries . AWS Experience Architecting scalable and secure cloud database solutions. Query optimization, indexing, caching, and performance tuning. Integrating databases with Lambda, S3, EC2, Glue . Monitoring with CloudWatch and CloudTrail . Managing IAM roles and encryption . Snowflake Experience Designing and managing Snowflake virtual data warehouses . Understanding micro-partitions and schema design . Data ingestion, transformation, and loading in Snowflake. Implementing RBAC security and encryption . Integrating Snowflake with BI tools (Tableau, Power BI) . Using Python for data pipelines and ML workflows .

Preferred / Desired

Skills Experience working with Federal or Public Sector clients . Linux scripting for ETL automation and data migration . Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and performance analysis . Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Education Bachelors' Degree with 7+ years of experience (Master's may substitute for experience).
