Detroit, MI (Hybrid/Onsite Tues-Thurs) W2 contract role 12 months with potential for contract-to-hire Job Summary The Data Governance Manager serves as the enterprise-wide owner for data governance, owning the overarching governance framework that guides all data practices across the organization. Operating at the center of the hub‑and‑spoke model, this role ensures consistency, standardization, and alignment across all business units, domains, and data stewardship teams. This role provides definitive guidance on all governance practices across the enterprise, partnering with stakeholders to support governance policies, processes, and best practices that enable trusted, high-quality, and well‑managed data for strategic decision making.
Key Accountabilities:
Maintain and evolve the enterprise-wide data governance framework, ensuring policies, standards, and processes are current, consistent, and aligned with organizational strategy. Manage steward enterprise data definitions, metadata standards, and quality expectations. Ensure consistent adoption of governance practices across all business units, domains, and data stewardship teams. Work closely with spoke-level governance leads to align on data definitions, resolve discrepancies, and drive enterprise-wide standardization. Provide definitive guidance on governance practices, serving as the central authority for interpreting policies, processes, and standards. Support stakeholders in applying governance best practices to enable trusted, high-quality, well‑managed data. Establish enterprise data quality metrics, thresholds, and monitoring expectations. Oversee issue management processes, ensuring timely resolution and root cause analysis. Facilitate governance councils, working groups, and cross-functional forums to drive alignment and decision-making. Educate and enable stakeholders on governance roles, responsibilities, and processes. Partner with IT stakeholders to ensure governance tools (e.g., data catalog, metadata management, lineage) support enterprise standards and are used consistently across spokes. Maintain governance documentation repositories and ensure accessibility and version control. Ensure governance practices support regulatory, privacy, and compliance requirements. Identify governance risks and recommend mitigation strategies. Education & Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in information management, Data Science, Computer Science, Business, or a related field (Master's degree preferred but not required) 5-8 years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, metadata management, or related disciplines Experience working within a hub‑and‑spoke governance model or other federated data management structures Hands-on experience with enterprise data governance tools (e.g., Azure Purview Collibra, Alation or Similar) Familiarity with data privacy and regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOX) Strong understanding of data architecture concepts, including lineage, metadata, master data, and reference data Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders at all levels without direct authority Experience facilitating governance councils, working groups, or cross‑functional decision-making forums
