Student Information System Specialist
JOB DESCRIPTION
Primary Purpose:
The Student Information System (SIS) Specialist provides advanced technical support, system configuration, and training for district staff using the SIS platform. This position serves as the tier 2 escalation point for complex issues, supports system optimization, and ensures effective training and documentation for campus and district users.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Serve as the primary escalation point for SIS-related issues that cannot be resolved by the SIS Technician. Troubleshoot and resolve complex SIS problems, coordinating with the SIS Coordinator and vendor support as needed. Monitor and validate student data processes to support data accuracy, identify discrepancies, and coordinate corrective action with campuses and district staff. Assist with the configuration and maintenance of SIS modules, including scheduling, grading,attendance, and reporting tools. Assist with creating, testing, and updating forms, templates, and reports within the SIS. Support student accounting and reporting efforts by verifying data, resolving SIS-related technical issues, and producing reports for state and district analysis needs. Support data integrations between the SIS and district applications, ensuring data accuracy, reliability, and timely issue resolution. Develop and deliver training sessions for campus and district staff on SIS functionality and best practices Create and maintain user-friendly documentation and guides for SIS processes. Provide one-on-one coaching and group training for staff as needed. Work closely with SIS Technicians and the SIS Coordinator to ensure smooth operation of SIS functions. Support testing and provide feedback during SIS upgrades under Coordinator's direction. Recommend process improvements to enhance data accuracy and operational efficiency. Perform other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience with SIS platforms (Skyward preferred). Experience providing technical support and training in an educational setting.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in information systems, education, or a related field required Equivalent experience may be considered for exceptional candidates.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical users. Proficiency in SIS configuration and reporting tools. Familiarity with state and district reporting requirements. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Customer service-oriented approach with attention to detail.
OTHER INFORMATION
Working Conditions Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Lifting and moving of heavy equipment; stooping, bending, and kneeling. Frequent district-wide travel and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours (work on-call and after hours).
