Job Description

The City of Eudora is accepting applications for a GIS Intern within our Public Works Department. The position will assists with the development, maintenance, analysis, and presentation of geographic information system (GIS) data that supports the planning, operation, and management of public infrastructure and municipal services. This internship provides hands-on experience working with spatial data, mapping applications, asset management systems, and field data collection while supporting a variety of Public Works functions, including transportation, utilities, stormwater, facilities, and capital improvement projects. Job Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to)
  • Assist with the creation, editing, maintenance, and quality control of GIS datasets and maps.
  • Perform field data collection using GPS equipment, mobile GIS applications, and other technologies.
  • Support the collection, validation, and integration of spatial and attribute data from various sources.
  • Update and maintain infrastructure asset inventories, including streets, sidewalks, utilities, signage, drainage systems, and facilities.
  • Support data migration, database maintenance, and GIS application testing.
  • Assist with the development and documentation of GIS workflows, standards, and procedures.
  • Respond to internal GIS-related requests from Public Works staff and other departments.
  • Exercise leadership practices within the position to move the department towards the City mission, vision, and values.
  • Performs other related duties as deemed necessary or as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Geospatial Science, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a related field. Completion of introductory GIS coursework.
  • Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications Experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or related GIS software.
Experience using GPS equipment or mobile data collection applications. Coursework or experience related to public infrastructure, utilities, engineering, or municipal government. Familiarity with database management concepts and geospatial data standards. Physical Requirements This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving minor defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally, in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
