Job Description
The City of Redmond is a thriving, culturally diverse community and home to over 80,000 residents. Redmond is the hub of an array of commerce and industry ranging from technology, aerospace, and gaming to biomedical and innovation start-ups. In this role, you will represent the city, and our values of service, integrity, accountability, belonging and stewardship. Public Works is seeking a graduate-level GIS intern to help improve the reliability and completeness of the City's utility GIS datasets. Working alongside our Senior GIS Analyst, you will research, field-verify, and analyze missing asset attributes across the City's water and wastewater systems—including hydrants, valves, service lines, and manholes. This focused effort will close known data gaps such as missing installation years, materials, sizes, and elevations, directly strengthening the City's asset management program, capital planning, and day-to-day operational decision-making. This is a hands-on opportunity to apply GIS analysis, historical records research, and field verification to real infrastructure data that serves an entire community. It is well suited to a student pursuing a degree in GIS, geography, civil or environmental engineering, urban planning, or a related field who wants meaningful, applied experience in local government.
