Reimbursed during active production days only Job Description We are looking for an experienced 1st Assistant Director to lead on-set operations for an upcoming production based primarily in Gilroy, CA, with a half-day shoot at our Mountain View (CrunchLabs/Depot) location. This role is critical in managing schedule, crew efficiency, and safety across both controlled and outdoor environments. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable navigating productions that involve moving parts, evolving timelines, and technical builds. Responsibilities

• Lead the execution of the daily shooting schedule and keep production on time
• Run set operations, including calling the roll and managing transitions between setups
• Collaborate closely with Producers, Director, and department heads (camera, G&E, art, engineering)
• Manage crew workflow and ensure clear communication across departments
• Anticipate delays and proactively adjust schedule as needed
• Oversee safety protocols, especially during builds, testing, and equipment operation
• Coordinate company moves between locations (Mountain View ↔ Gilroy as needed)
• Maintain a professional, efficient, and positive set environment Qualifications
• 3+ years experience as a 1st AD (digital, commercial, or unscripted preferred)
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Proven ability to manage fast-paced, multi-department productions
• Experience with outdoor shoots and/or technically complex builds is a plus
• Comfortable working with smaller, agile crews
• Ability to work as a local in the South Bay / Gilroy area
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required Production Notes
