at Cardinal Health in Dover, Delaware, United States Job Description Job Summary The Manager, Software Asset Management ( SAM ) is a people leader responsible for expanding and optimizing Cardinal Health's enterprise software portfolio to maximize value, minimize risk, and enable data-driven decision making. This role leads the growth and maturity of the SAM program by onboarding top-tier suppliers and licensed products, advancing Flexera One as the enterprise system of insight, developing SAM talent, and accelerating automation across the software lifecycle. The role partners closely with IT, Finance, FinOps, Procurement, Cloud, Security, Legal, and strategic vendors to deliver measurable cost optimization, compliance assurance, and value realization. Responsibilities
- Leads enterprise software license growth within the SAM processes by prioritizing top-tier suppliers and high-value licensed products.
- Owns Software Asset Management outcomes across on-prem, SaaS, and cloud environments.
- Proactively manages software compliance, audit readiness, and financial risk across the enterprise.
- Solution Owner of software license renewal portfolio and operational process management (Follow-the-Renewal).
- Leads, develops, and mentors SAM team members, establishing clear performance expectations and development plans.
- Serves as a core strategic partner in the software strategy council, works effectively in cross collaboration efforts involving Indirect Procurement, Enterprise Architecture, Finance, Repairs and Maintenance.
- Owns strategic partnerships with Flexera, external consulting partners, and top-tier software suppliers, holding partners accountable to outcomes and KPIs.
- Matures Flexera One capabilities, ensuring trusted data, effective license positions, and actionable insights.
- Partners with IT teams to identify continuous improvement opportunities and drive them to completion.
- Works closely with the Flexera One Product Owner to oversee performance, agent upgrades, and inventory processes are working as designed.
- Spearheads and facilitates quarterly business reviews with internal and external partners (Flexera).
- Drives automation across the software lifecycle, including contract ingestion, entitlement management, usage analysis, harvesting, and reporting.
- Defines, develops, socializes, and maintains SAM and FinOps-aligned KPIs measuring value realization, cost optimization, compliance, automation, and portfolio coverage.
- Provides SAM expertise to FinOps team supporting cloud cost optimization, forecasting accuracy. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in Software Asset Management or IT Asset Management preferred.
- Demonstrated people leadership experience with accountability for outcomes and performance preferred.
- Hands-on experience maturing Flexera One or comparable SAM platforms at enterprise scale preferred.
- Proven experience defining and managing KPIs and translating insights into business action preferred.
- Strong cross-functional influence and stakeholder management skills preferred.
- Effective communicator, skilled in presenting and tailoring messages to the audience preferred.
- Experience partnering with external consulting partners or other SAM managed service providers preferred.
- Experience leading automation or data-driven transformation initiatives preferred.
ITAM , SAM
