Job Description

IT Manager Fairlane Products - 2.9 Fraser, MI Job Details Full-time From $120,000 a year 7 hours ago Benefits Paid holidays Disability insurance Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Vision insurance 401(k) matching Life insurance Qualifications Microsoft Excel Inventory management ERP systems E-commerce SQL Task prioritization Problem-solving Full Job Description This is a rare opportunity to be the primary source of technical knowledge and driver of strategy and direction for a small, but well-established manufacturing and distribution company. The IT Manager is responsible for managing our growing infrastructure and facilitating the evolution of our network and business systems. This is a 100% on-site, hands-on position in a one-person IT department reporting directly to the owner. The ideal candidate will need well-rounded experience across multiple areas of IT as well as the aptitude to translate business requirements into technical solutions. The ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize and adapt to changing requirements is a must. Resourcefulness and willingness to dig into the details is key. What you'll actually do: You'll own the network, the servers, the databases, the ERP, the internal software, the e-commerce, the workstations, and the backups — plus the help-desk ticket that just came in. Multitasking isn't a buzzword here; it's a regular day. Keep the infrastructure healthy — Active Directory, Hyper-V virtual machines, SQL Server, switching and wireless, endpoint security, backups, SharePoint, email, and phones. Administer and customize our ERP including configuration, user security, integrations, bulk product and price updates, transaction auditing, workflows, and reporting. Maintain and extend our internal software that runs CRM, order processing, pick/pack/ship, manufacturing labor collection, product catalog, barcode labeling, and reporting. Write SQL, import & export data and become the data steward to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all systems. Direct and manage outside developers and technicians on the larger projects. Do the unglamorous parts too — image a new workstation, run a cable, swap a failed drive, set up an access point. What's on the roadmap: You'll inherit a real backlog of meaningful work, not just a maintenance holding pattern: Configure and deploy new servers and upgrade existing servers. ERP upgrades and customizations. Stand up a new product catalog (PIM) system. Manage the design, configuration, integration and Implementation of a new, multi-site e-commerce platform. Help bring a brand-new manufacturing plant online with state-of-the-art machinery and automated monitoring systems.
Our environment:
50+ workstation Windows / Active Directory network Ubiquiti UniFi — Dream Machine, switching, and wireless access points 7 virtualized servers on Hyper-V SQL Server 2019 (several instances) Syspro ERP Internal applications on both legacy (classic ASP on IIS) and mainstream (node.js) platforms. Who we're looking for: A true generalist — broad knowledge across networking, systems, databases, ERP, and web, with the confidence to go deep when a problem demands it. Resourceful and self-directed. You figure things out, you read the documentation, and you don't wait to be told. You use AI tools fluently to multiply what one person can get done. Thorough and conscientious. You finish what you start. You have awareness across all systems so that a change to one doesn't break another. You document it so the next person (or future you) isn't lost. Fast to absorb unfamiliar systems and become productive without a lot of hand-holding. Able to determine which tasks to tackle yourself and which to delegate to outside vendors and to manage, direct & supervise them. Comfortable being the entire department — the planner, the project manager, and the technician, all in one. This is a hands-on builder-and-fixer role, not a delegate-and-oversee role. If your strength is leading a team and you'd rather not be the one getting dirt under your fingernails, this likely won't be the right seat for you. On any given day you might need to write a SQL query while in the middle of an ERP upgrade then be called out to the shop to clear a jammed barcode printer. You're the kind of person who's genuinely fine with all three. Education & experience: Bachelor's degree in IT, engineering, or business — or equivalent hands-on experience. We value demonstrated experience, ability and aptitude over credentials. 5+ years in a broad, hands-on IT role, ideally as a one-person or small department. 5+ years supporting a comprehensive ERP. Syspro experience is a strong plus. 5+ years inside a manufacturing and distribution operation including inventory and catalog management, order processing, job management, and accounting.
Solid SQL Server skills:
queries, stored procedures, import/export and ETL, backups, and basic schema work.
E-commerce:
Familiarity with shopping carts, CMS, payments, shipping, and UX. Experience running a small network end to end: AD, Hyper-V virtualization, wireless, VPN, endpoint security, and cloud services. Helpful, but not required: Although this is not a software developer position, some development skills would be genuinely helpful in order to enhance & extend internal applications and/or to direct outside vendors (or AI) to respond to new business requirements.
Front-end coding:
HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and the ability to read and maintain VBScript; comfort with JSON/XML and consuming APIs.
Back-end exposure:
IIS, Node.js, and Azure or AWS. Legacy classic ASP experience would be extremely helpful. Power user of Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Excel, Power BI, and Access. You already lean on AI tools (Claude and the like) to work faster and smarter.
Logistics:
On-site in a casual, friendly office environment. This is not a remote or hybrid role.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday (Occasional evening or weekend only when necessary). Compensation & benefits Starting at $120,000 DOE. Paid time off. Paid holidays. 401(k) with match. BCBSMedical, dental, life, and disability insurance.
