CHS323 The University of Lincoln is seeking to appoint an exceptional Technical Manager to provide strategic leadership of technical services within its School of Engineering and Physical Sciences. This is a highly influential role, operating at the interface of academic excellence, research delivery, and technical innovation. As part of the School's leadership team, you will shape the technical strategy, lead capability development, and ensure the School's infrastructure supports an ambitious programme of growth in teaching, research, and external engagement. The Context The School sits at the heart of a rapidly evolving, interdisciplinary environment spanning engineering, robotics, computer science, mathematics, and physics. With significant investment in facilities, research capability, and student experience, the University is well-positioned for further growth. The Technical Manager will play a central role in translating this ambition into operational excellence, ensuring that people, systems, and environments are aligned to deliver at scale, leading a team with diverse skillsets aligned to the School's broad interdisciplinary environment. The Role This position goes beyond operational management. It requires a leader who can: Set and deliver technical strategy aligned with School and University priorities Build and lead a high-performing, agile technical workforce Oversee complex laboratory and specialist environments, ensuring they remain fit for future demand Act as a trusted advisor to academics and leadership on infrastructure, investment, and capability Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and efficiency across technical services Ensure rigorous health, safety, and compliance frameworks in a complex environment The Individual We are seeking a credible and forward-looking leader with the ability to operate confidently at senior level.
You will bring:
A strong track record in leading technical, scientific, or laboratory-based services Experience of managing complex operations, resources, and multi-disciplinary teams The ability to influence, challenge and partner with senior academic stakeholders Commercial awareness, including exposure to capital investment, procurement, or research environments A clear commitment to developing people, capability, and culture Above all, you will combine strategic insight with operational delivery, and the judgement to navigate competing priorities in a dynamic academic setting.
