The ideal candidate will have leadership experience and expertise in bridging the gap between technical operations and instructional excellence, collaborating with diverse stakeholders to execute a long-range technology plan that empowers both educators and students. The Director of Educational Technology oversees all aspects of technology in the school district including vision, planning, budget, operations, professional development, legal compliance, and curriculum. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, acting as an advocate for educational technology, facilitating professional development for all staff, collaborating with technology coordinators and district leadership on creation, evaluation, and implementation of articulated curriculum, and working with site-level tech coordinators on coaching and team teaching with teachers around best practices in technology integration. Interviews anticipated to begin in mid-March, position begins July 1, 2026.
Target hiring range:

General Purpose:
The Director of Educational Technology oversees all aspects of technology in the school district including vision, planning, budget, operations, professional development, legal compliance and curriculum. The Director of Educational Technology will work collaboratively with district personnel as the leader of educational technology initiatives in SAU 70 towards the goal of improving the education and operational functions of the district.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position:
Strategic Leadership and Vision:
  • Work closely with all stakeholders to develop and facilitate a vision of how technology will support teaching and learning in the district.
  • Coordinate the development, monitoring, and execution of technology plan(s) for the district.
  • Formulate District Wide technology policies and training schedules/requirements based on prioritization of identified needs.
  • Work with the building Technology Coordinators, Technicians, Superintendent, Business Manager, Curriculum Directors, and Administrative Assistants in the long ­range planning, facilities design, school construction issues, and budgeting with regard to technology.
  • Act as an advocate for education technology and engage the active participation of staff, community, parents, businesses, agencies, and other groups in fulfilling the district Strategic Plan.
Advocate for the development of a community master technology plan to support resource and information sharing, reduce duplication of services, and streamline data transfer among schools.
Operations Management:
  • Help facilitate district-wide technology purchasing; identify opportunities for improving efficiency, maximizing purchasing leverage, and reducing waste. For example, pooling bulk equipment purchases for better pricing, and streamlining redundant systems.
  • Oversee and coordinate efforts of outside vendors to ensure they fulfill their contract obligations and meet the needs of the District.
  • Work with all stakeholders to facilitate SAU 70's compliance with data privacy legislation.
  • Work in collaboration with the appointed Network Contractors to build and support a network infrastructure that will meet the needs of all students and staff.
  • Oversee Data Specialist to ensure deadlines and expectations are met
Instructional Focus and Educational Technology:
  • Lead, coordinate and encourage professional development for all technology staff to keep abreast of the rapid changes in technology and software.
  • Team with technology coordinators, and district leadership on creation, evaluation, and implementation of articulated curriculum.
  • Remain current on new developments in the areas of software, hardware, networks, telecommunications, training, and maintenance.
  • Perform other tasks and assumes other responsibilities assigned by the Superintendent
  • Must comply with all SAU 70 District policy and building/department rules, procedures, practices and objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Technology (or IT related field), or an equivalent combination of education training, and experience will be considered.
  • Preferred 3-5 years experience in classroom computer technology instruction or education technology integration.
  • Proven experience with team/department leadership, preferably in education or public sector.
  • Excellent project management, project communication, and team communication skills.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of current instructional technology trends and best practices, including AI.
  • Deep understanding of frameworks like SAMR or TPACK.
  • Knowledge of FERPA, COPPA, CIPA, and state-level student data privacy laws.
  • Knowledge of district budgeting, E-Rate funding, purchasing, and municipal contracts.
  • Basic understanding of network topology (LAN/WAN, cloud) to direct and evaluate.
  • Skill in aligning technology resources with K-12 curriculum and state standards.
  • Ability to translate concepts into documented, multi-year plans with measurable KPIs.
  • Experience overseeing consultants and contractors to ensure SLA compliance and ROI.
  • Capability to draft district-wide tech policies and security protocols that balance innovation with safety.
  • Skill in identifying hardware/software redundancies to maximize purchasing leverage.
  • Proficiency in leading project management with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to align emerging technology trends with district goals and pedagogical needs.
  • Capacity to lead cross-departmental efforts by fostering a culture of shared expertise.
  • Ability to oversee data flows between all stakeholders to streamline operations.
  • Flexibility to pivot strategies and develop creative staffing solutions for evolving needs.
  • Skill in translating complex technical needs into clear narratives for all stakeholders.
