What you'll do: Viasat is seeking a Project Engineer (PE) to build integrated cryptographic solutions for IP network, radio link, and space connectivity. You will epitomize technical excellence by digesting new technology quickly, advising on roadmaps, and leading interdisciplinary teams to solve complex customer challenges. The ideal candidate is a "Swiss Army Knife" engineer—an expert in systems design and networking who is equally comfortable in a high-level proposal meeting as they are performing hands-on hardware troubleshooting in the lab.
The day-to-day:
As a Project Engineer, you will build integrated solutions for edge-to-cloud connectivity in austere locations. You will epitomize technical excellence by digesting new technology quickly, advising on roadmaps, and leading interdisciplinary teams to solve complex customer challenges.
In this role you will:
Design, develop and test complex networking products while serving as the primary technical resource for interdisciplinary teams and management Serve as a technical point of contact for government customers and government regulatory agencies. Lead program/event planning dependencies, specifically for customer demos, ensuring thorough preparation to reduce execution risk Support Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) scheduling and reporting Perform technical design and code reviews while mentoring junior engineers to further team development What you'll need: 10+ years' hands-on experience with complex system verification 5+ years' experience engaging with complex systems that include Hardware/Software integration and a strong knowledge of hardware/software interfaces Proven understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, Ethernet protocols, and OSI layers Validated experience with C, C#, and Python Proficiency in Linux command line with skills to use modern development tools for automation. Excellent technical writing skills to generate required customer documents and analyses Solid communication skills, both verbal and written Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering US Government position. US Citizenship required Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain when administratively feasible Ability to travel up to 20% both domestically What will help you on the job: Active DoD Secret clearance Master's degree in computer engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering A "no job too small" attitude and the ability to remain flexible in ambiguous environments. The proactive mindset to see potential problems before they manifest Ability to work with diverse personalities and subject matter experts of different disciplines Experience with scheduling, Earned Value Management (EVMS), and Microsoft Project Salary range: $141,500.00 - $224,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $176,000.00- $264,000.00/ annually : At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
