Job Description

Overview We are seeking a Director of Application Development to define and lead the application strategy for the Consumables and Laboratory Automation Core Separations Portfolio. This role is accountable for shaping how applications drive portfolio growth, customer adoption, and competitive differentiation across key markets including small molecule pharmaceuticals and food and environmental testing. The Director will own the multi-year application roadmap, aligning scientific innovation, product capabilities, and market needs to accelerate commercialization and expand the impact of Waters' consumables portfolio. As a strategic partner to senior leadership, this role will translate market trends, regulatory changes, and customer insights into clear priorities, investment decisions, and scalable application solutions that directly influence revenue growth and portfolio performance. Responsibilities Set the direction for scientific content in the Core Separations portfolio working cross-functionally with Product Management, Engineering, Evaluations and other scientific leads across Waters Shape the development of new applications for Waters HPLC columns, sample preparation devices and sample vials and plates Lead new product research and development Awareness of HPLC column/sample preparation/vial and plate market trends and competition Monitor trends and opportunities in HPLC and HPLC/MS testing of small molecule pharmaceuticals and food and environmental analytes, including changes in regulations Provide strategic advice for science across specific discipline and build relationships with customers / regulatory bodies Qualifications BS with 10+ years of experience, Master's Degree with 8+ years of experience, or Ph.D. with 6+ years of experience in Analytical Chemistry or Other Scientific Discipline Must have hands-on experience in use of sample preparation, HPLC and HPLC/MS, ideally knowledge of Waters LC and MS instrumentation and software Must have experience with HPLC and HPLC/MS method development for small molecule pharmaceutical and/or food and environmental applications At least 5 years of experience managing scientists Proven organizational, planning, and supervision skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Company Description Waters Corporation (
