Job Description

What to Expect Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Technical Program Manager for our Gigafactory in Buffalo, New York to contribute to the design and development of new automation equipment and assembly lines. The Technical Program Manager will work to manage technical projects from kickoff to closeout along with several Manufacturing Engineering peers. Throughout this process, the candidate is responsible for identifying risks to the project and for driving solutions. The candidate will manage internal and external stakeholders by acting as the point of contact between different individuals and teams. The candidate will regularly collect, compile, and consolidate information from a variety of sources into trackers, checklists, and reports. The candidate is expected to contribute lessons learned to Tesla's global standards.
What You'll Do System-Level Execution:
Own the end-to-end program lifecycle for complex manufacturing systems, understanding raw product specifications and comprehensive automation, mechanical, and controls requirements (Manual, Semi-Auto, and Fully Automated lines)
Resource Mapping & Planning:
Drive strategic resource allocation, headcount mapping, and capacity planning across engineering disciplines to ensure the group is optimally scaled to hit aggressive deployment targets for new lines and sustaining projects
Constraint Resolution:
Analyze technical bottlenecks across software, hardware, and deployment phases; act as the primary catalyst to unblock teams and optimize the system-level critical path
Procurement & Vendor Strategy:
Lead technical procurement decisions, vendor evaluations, and statement of work (SOW) definitions for critical automation hardware and software stacks
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Serve as the technical bridge between Controls, MES, Mechanical Design, Product Engineering, and business partners to align dependencies and manage expectations Systemic problem solving
  • Solve factory wide systemic problems spanning across different engineering or operational departments and be the voice reason to drive alignment and problem solving
What You'll Bring Years of Experience:
7+ years of technical program management, systems engineering, or hands-on engineering experience within a high-volume manufacturing, automation, or industrial environment
Automation Acumen:
Strong fundamental knowledge of automation systems, including PLC architectures, MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) integration, data bases, and industrial networks
Commissioning & Safety:
Basic understanding of industrial commissioning processes, equipment ramp-up, and safety protocols/buy-offs (e.g., OSHA, RIA, CE, or internal corporate safety gates)
Program & Data Architecture:
Proficient in leveraging Jira and Confluence for robust project tracking and documentation, alongside data-driven dashboarding tools (Tableau or similar) to visualize team metrics and project health Eco-system thinking
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot "gray area" problems that sit in intersection of hardware, software, operations and data pipelines where no single department owns the root cause
Education Flex:

  • $151,920
  • $227,880/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits for all levels Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
