Job Summary:
The Lead Designer is responsible for the creation, development, management, and successful implementation of high-quality visual design across GEDP's full portfolio of events, programs, campaigns, and organizational materials. The Lead Designer serves as GEDP's primary creative production force. The Lead Designer ensures the consistent look, presentation, and quality of GEDP's brands across all promotional, institutional, and digital materials. They bring seniority and ownership to the design function, working with minimal supervision and proactively advancing the visual identity of the organization. The Lead Designer will act as GEDP's liaison to outside printing, advertising, and design vendor relationships.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for the design and creation of all GEDP marketing collateral including annual reports, programs, event posters, signage, postcards/flyers, brochures, social media graphics, sponsorship materials, and presentations Oversees the design, scheduling, creation, and submission of GEDP advertising buys; designs and traffics traditional print advertising and billboards Shoots and edits video content for distribution on digital platforms including YouTube and Vimeo as well as social media Assists in the creation, design, and content management of GEDP websites Manages the scheduling and creation of all GEDP digital signage components Leads logo development and visual identity work for GEDP and sub-brands; establishes and maintains art direction and graphic standards in coordination with the Marketing & Communications Manager Manages outside printing relationships; prepares job specifications and requests for proposal, obtains estimates, and makes recommendations for final production decisions Leverages AI-assisted design tools selectively and intentionally to support production efficiency without compromising creative quality or voice Participates in the conception, creation, and implementation of promotions, sponsorship campaigns, and organizational activities in collaboration with the marketing team Creates forms and documents for internal and external use including business cards, stationery, staff credentials, parking passes, and other branded organizational collateral Designs merchandise and retail items in collaboration with staff Maintains an organized library of graphics, photography, and design files; includes archiving and version control Provides creative leadership and mentorship to junior design staff as the team grows Attends and supports GEDP events as needed, including festivals and programming that may occur on evenings and weekends As job descriptions cannot possibly list all types of activities that one may encounter in a role like this, the person holding the position may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities as assigned by the Marketing & Communications Manager or Executive Director when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Bachelor of Arts or Science in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, or related field; 4+ years of relevant professional experience as a graphic designer, including at least one role with significant independent ownership of a design function Expert proficiency in
Adobe Creative Suite:
Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premiere Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume, multi-project production queue independently and meet deadlines under event-driven pressure Strong visual portfolio showing range across print, digital, event, and campaign contexts — portfolio required for application Proven illustration skills and an active illustration practice; demonstrated ability to create original hand-drawn or hand-influenced assets that bring warmth, character, and distinctiveness to a visual identity Hands-on experience with handmade, craft-influenced, or process-based design — including practices such as hand lettering, screen printing, letterpress, linocut, collage, or similar; candidates should bring a genuine interest in and commitment to this kind of work, not just familiarity with its aesthetic A point of view on design that values the human, the tactile, and the intentional; GEDP actively resists generic, AI-generated, and overly corporate visual output and looks to its Lead Designer to help set and hold that standard Experience maintaining and applying brand standards consistently across a broad set of deliverables Photography skills and comfort shooting in fast-moving, outdoor event environments Familiarity with AI-assisted design tools (Adobe Firefly, Midjourney, or similar); ability to deploy these tools purposefully without allowing them to flatten or genericize creative voice Knowledge and familiarity with basic HTML and CSS Photography, videography, and video editing experience Proficiency with
Microsoft Office Suite:
Word, Excel, PowerPoint Proficiency with Mac and PC environments Strong communicator with excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills; ability to give and receive creative feedback professionally and collaborate across all levels of the organization Ability to work in an office environment as well as outdoors in all types of weather during festivals and events
