3D Animator Metaphysical Labs San Bernardino, CA Job Details Contract From $50,000 a year 1 day ago Benefits Flexible schedule Referral program Qualifications Teamwork 3ds Max Attention to detail Organizational skills Maya Full Job Description Technical Animator (Contract-to-Full-Time) We are seeking a Technical Animator to create high-quality 3D technical and engineering animations for interactive product instruction, assembly, repair, and training experiences. This role is ideal for artists and technical creatives who enjoy translating complex mechanical systems and workflows into clear, visually engaging animations. Our company develops interactive 3D visualization and technical communication systems for manufacturers, industrial companies, and engineering-focused products. We combine animation, engineering visualization, and modern web technologies to improve how users learn, assemble, repair, and interact with products. This is a remote contractor position during the initial evaluation period, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role based on performance, communication, and production consistency. Success in this role looks like delivering accurate, production-ready animations that simplify technical information for end users while collaborating effectively with cross-functional production and software teams. This role plays an important part in transforming traditional technical documentation into modern interactive 3D experiences. Responsibilities Create high-quality 3D technical and engineering animations using Blender, Maya, or 3DS Max Animate mechanical assemblies, exploded views, installation procedures, repair workflows, and product demonstrations Interpret CAD files, engineering references, technical documentation, and product manuals to accurately represent product functionality Optimize animation scenes and assets for web-based and interactive 3D experiences Collaborate with designers, developers, and project managers to ensure animation quality and technical accuracy Organize project files, naming conventions, and production assets according to internal pipeline standards Troubleshoot animation, rigging, scene, and asset-related issues during production Revise and iterate on animations based on internal reviews and client feedback Maintain visual consistency, timing, and motion clarity across multiple projects Assist in improving internal workflows, animation systems, and production efficiency over time Qualifications Experience with Blender, Autodesk Maya, or 3DS Max Understanding of animation principles, timing, and motion design Ability to work with technical, industrial, or engineering-focused subject matter Familiarity with CAD-based workflows and mechanical assemblies is preferred Understanding of lighting, cameras, materials, rendering, and scene optimization workflows Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage deadlines and communicate progress effectively in a remote work environment Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities Portfolio demonstrating 3D animation work, technical animation work, or mechanical visualization projects Experience with game engines, real-time rendering, interactive 3D, or web-based 3D pipelines is a plus Experience with FBX, GLTF, STEP, OBJ, or CAD-to-DCC workflows is a plus Experience level may range from junior to senior; strong work quality, reliability, and willingness to learn are highly valued Employment Details Remote position Initial independent contractor engagement with opportunity for full-time employment Flexible collaboration across multiple time zones Contractors are expected to manage their own schedules, equipment, and production environment while meeting agreed-upon project deadlines Opportunity to work on innovative interactive 3D instruction and visualization systems for industrial and manufacturing applications Application Process Please send the following to : Portfolio or demo reel Resume, LinkedIn profile, or relevant work history Software proficiency list Availability and preferred contract structure Qualified applicants may be invited to complete a self-paced technical animation assessment designed to evaluate animation quality, problem-solving ability, communication, and workflow compatibility.
