Job Description

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Automation Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in PLC programming on Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms, motor drive programming, and system troubleshooting. Experience with Ignition development is highly desirable. In this role, you will design, optimize, and maintain automated systems to ensure efficient and reliable operations.
Responsibilities:
Conceptualize, design, build, and troubleshoot automation solutions on Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC platforms to improve process and equipment performance. Solutions may also involve robotics, vision/camera, and motion systems. Develop a clear, detailed project scope through stakeholder engagement, create a realistic timeline and execution plan, manage progress and task completion by fellow team members while keeping stakeholders informed, and ensure stakeholder satisfaction upon completion. Write clear job specifications to ensure effective competitive bidding and enforce contractor/supplier compliance with all Tarkett's safety requirements while onsite. Troubleshoot and resolve automation system issues to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency. For emergency manufacturing and maintenance support, the automation engineer may receive direction from the facility maintenance or plant manager(s). Assist int the training of electricians and mechanics on machine operation and troubleshooting to minimize dependency on automation engineer support. Collaborate with process engineering and cross-functional teams to identify system requirements and provide technical solutions. Perform system testing, validation, and commissioning for new and updated automated processes. Maintain (backup) and update technical documentation, including electrical drawings (AutoCAD), system configurations, and programming files. Attend certain technical training classes, as deemed necessary by the Engineering Manager, and pass this knowledge along to peers and/or electrical maintenance personnel. Monitor the age, obsolescence, and operating condition of all control systems (i.e., PLC, HMI, motor controls, heat controls, etc.) and create / manage capital projects to upgrade or replace these systems when required. Integrate Ignition development into control systems for enhanced functionality and performance. Develop real-time monitoring of process equipment to develop strategic annunciation to aid in troubleshooting and optimizations. Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend system improvements.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 5+ years relevant experience in machine automation control or 8+ years of applied experience in related field plus relevant technical education/certifications. Proven experience in PLC programming with Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms, motor drive programming, robotic programming/troubleshooting, and vision systems. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Demonstrated success in project management. Familiarity with Ignition development and scripting is required. Solid understanding of industrial automation systems, protocols, and standards. Effective written and oral communication with team members and stakeholders of various backgrounds and levels. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization. Experience in AutoCAD in order to develop and maintain electrical schematics.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with SCADA systems, IoT technologies, and industrial data analysis. Certification in Allen Bradley and/or Siemens PLC programming is a plus. Knowledge of OPC UA, MQTT, and other data transfer protocols. Proficiency in Python, Java, SQL, and related programming languages.
