JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Manager and/or Director of Network Operations, provide support to the satisfactory operation of the WPI network and facilitate its use by members of the WPI community.

Responsibilities:
Identify and resolve network issues, including performance problems, connectivity issues, and assist with security incidents as needed. Communicate with other IT teams on problems and update status as needed. Maintain data wiring and fiber infrastructure, and document the data network including topology and connections. Support physical plant renovations as they relate to voice, data, and other communications. Perform regular system maintenance of equipment or updates as needed. Supervise and mentor students on all aspects of networking and operations, such as network physical plant patching, fiber optic cleaning, and proper documenting of work performed. Ensure students have the tools needed to successfully perform tasks assigned. Coordinate and assist other IT teams on installing hardware in data centers by providing power, network connections, and proper HVAC. Work with non-IT departments on setting up equipment. Monitor equipment such as network switches, routers, firewalls, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), wireless, and HVAC equipment in networking closets. Set up network equipment for special events such as Commencement, VEX Robotics, and meetings. Triage and troubleshoot tickets while working with co-workers to resolve issues. Respond to issues beyond normal business hours to provide 24/7 connectivity. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science preferred Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar or related role Experience with network hardware, cabling, and network management software, including network troubleshooting Experience with Ethernet, wireless Ethernet, and TCP/IP networking Knowledge of Windows, Linux, MS Office, and virtualization technologies preferred Knowledge of LENEL access, building management, law enforcement, and PCI systems architecture and security preferred Full working knowledge of low voltage equipment required Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all users Availability to assist with off-hours support as needed Salary Grade 7: $62,500 - $75,000 per year (depending on experience) Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
