Job Title:
Embedded Networking Software Engineer Job Description Support the design, development, and integration of secure networking protocols for complex embedded systems. Implement and maintain Layer 2/Layer 3 networking functionality and secure communications using IPSec and IKE within mission‑critical platforms. Translate CONOPS, specifications, and formal requirements into robust software designs, production‑quality code, and test artifacts. Work involves embedded OS integration, networking stack development, and close collaboration across hardware, systems engineering, and cybersecurity domains. Responsibilities Design and develop secure networking protocols for embedded systems. Implement and maintain Layer 2/Layer 3 networking functionalities. Ensure secure communications using IPSec and IKE. Translate specifications and requirements into software designs and test artifacts. Collaborate closely with hardware, systems engineering, and cybersecurity teams. Essential Skills Expertise in Layer 2 / Layer 3 networking, including Ethernet, VLAN tagging, IPv6 Neighbor Discovery, and IPSec. 10+ years of experience in networking protocol development. 5+ years of hands-on experience with IPSec and IKEv1/IKEv2. Proficiency in C++, Ada, and model-based systems engineering. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with embedded operating systems such as Embedded Linux, FreeRTOS, QNX, or VxWorks. Experience in multi-threaded and multi-core systems. Experience with BSP, device driver, and API development. Proficiency in Ada, C, C++, or equivalent languages. Experience with Python or other scripting languages. Familiarity with model-based engineering tools like Cameo. Work Environment Work in a mission-critical embedded systems environment focused on high-reliability and security. Engage in development within defense, aerospace, automotive, or similarly regulated industries. Collaborate with systems, hardware, and cybersecurity teams to deliver high-impact solutions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $72.00 - $97.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
