What to Expect We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to support the Automation Development Team in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota in designing and building the automation and robotic equipment that builds world-class Tesla products. Electrical engineers are responsible for owning and implementing the solution from project concept to installation; this includes machine concepting, electrical infrastructure planning, detailed electrical design/layout, managing control panel and machine assembly, acceptance testing, and installation/integration at the factory. Since each Tesla machine is a custom design and build, the electrical engineer must have a desire to learn and implement rapidly changing technology to deliver the best possible solution. This full-time role requires the flexibility to travel to other Tesla facilities (up to 15%). The ideal candidate takes pride in their ability to play numerous roles as a project advances through its many phases. Communication skills, analytical ability, and great attention to detail while working under tight deadlines are extremely important. This candidate is familiar with and appreciates an environment where individuals carry significant responsibility and where excellent work is encouraged, noticed, and rewarded. They cheerfully engage and collaborate with other engineers, and thrive on daily interaction with other top notch people. This candidate also has a keen understanding of how to work with and/or motivate diverse engineering teams. What You'll Do
Collaborate with project manager and other design engineers to develop robust, safe, and efficient electrical designs for industrial equipment
Evaluate and select between various forms of industrial control system hardware to meet machine specific requirements, such as PLCs, I/O, motor controls and network devices
Create electrical and pneumatic schematics and bills of materials using EPLAN Electric P8
Design custom industrial control panels, including layouts and calculations for loads, heat, and SCCR, and interface with panel shop during the build
Manage tight schedules to ensure that control panels and critical commercial parts meet the project build schedule
Support assembly and debug operations by providing direction on electrical assembly and troubleshooting issues that arise during build
Potential to travel to the Tesla factories to assist with installation and startup What You'll Bring
3 or more years of experience in electrical design for custom automation using EPLAN Electric P8 (strongly preferred) or AutoCAD Electrical
Strong knowledge of electrical concepts and best practices, including three phase power distribution, control logic, and industrial networking protocols
Hands-on experience working with and troubleshooting electrical and pneumatic systems
Hands-on experience with a wide range of industrial automation hardware, including PLC hardware (Siemens and Allen-Bradley), VFDs and servomotors, DC control circuits, I/O and field instrumentation, and pneumatic valves and cylinders
Proficiency in using US electrical standards NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 79, and UL508A
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience Compensation and Benefits
