Job Description

Subsidiary Steel Dynamics Responsibilities Monitor mill performance relating to volume, quality, delay rate and yield and make improvements in these areas. Maintain backups of all software related to mill operation and support systems. Ensure work group safety and a safe work environment for the entire department relating to changes in process control. Develop technicians troubleshooting skills and programming skills. Keep the work group and department up to date on changes affecting mill operations. Report to the electrical supervisor, keeping them up to date of all activities. Maintain the automation hardware and programming interfaces. Perform diagnostic testing on mill equipment to determine trends toward equipment failures. Monitor system operations and the interface to these systems which the operators use. Make improvements to the operations and interfaces which improve the operator's ease of control and ability to monitor the process. Qualifications Understanding of electrical safety practices. Understanding of advanced mathematics. Understanding of electrical fundamentals. Understanding of process control systems. Understanding of power distribution systems. Understanding of motor theory. Understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems of all types. Understanding of variable frequency drives. Understanding of industrial network and communication protocols. Proven logical approach to troubleshooting. Advanced abilities using P.C.'s and common software and utilities. Automation system programming capabilities. Ability to teach and develop electrical technicians. Ability to work in a team. Required to be available any time day or night to take calls and call-in's.
