Job Title:
Automation Commissioning Engineer Job Description This role focuses on commissioning, validating, and troubleshooting advanced automation and control systems within a GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. You will work on a high-profile, long-term project at a state-of-the-art facility, collaborating closely with a team of engineers to deliver reliable, efficient, and compliant process control solutions. Responsibilities Execute automation commissioning and validation protocols for process control systems in a GMP/pharmaceutical environment. Troubleshoot and remediate commissioning and validation non-conformances to ensure systems operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with applicable standards. Collaborate in a team environment with internal engineers and client stakeholders to design and deliver state-of-the-art control systems that improve manufacturing efficiency, product quality, and overall profitability. Define, configure, and implement programmable logic controller (PLC) solutions, with a focus on Rockwell/Allen-Bradley platforms. Perform testing, on-site commissioning, and qualification of control systems to verify performance and adherence to functional and regulatory requirements. Work with minimal supervision, taking ownership of assigned tasks and driving them to completion within project timelines. Document commissioning activities, test results, and remediation actions in a clear and compliant manner. Essential Skills Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Electrical Technology. 2-8 years of experience in automation or a closely related field. Hands-on experience configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLCs. Proficiency with Allen-Bradley and Rockwell automation platforms. Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for control systems and automation equipment. Previous work experience in a GMP/pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. Proven ability to execute assignments with little supervision and to work effectively in a team setting. Experience with commissioning and validation of automation and control systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience executing structured commissioning and validation protocols for process automation systems. Familiarity with control system qualification in highly regulated industries. Strong communication skills to interface with engineering teams and client representatives. Ability to adapt to changing project needs and to support long-term project assignments. Interest in long-term career growth on large, complex automation projects, with potential to move between projects as needed. Work Environment You will work on-site at a modern, large-scale, state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing facility composed of multiple interlinked buildings and designed for high quality, high efficiency, and highly reliable production. The environment centers on delivering robust control systems, primarily using Rockwell/Allen-Bradley technologies, in a GMP-regulated setting. You will collaborate closely with a team of approximately five other engineers on the same site, supporting a high-profile project with strong long-term potential. The schedule is expected to follow a 4x10-hour format, with shifts highly likely to be on weekends. Typical schedules may include a weekend shift from Thursday to Sunday, approximately 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., or an evening shift from Wednesday night to Saturday night, typically around 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with Sunday morning off. The role is fully on-site in a production and facilities environment, where you will spend significant time around operational manufacturing equipment and automation systems. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Concord, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
