Sr. DeltaV Controls Architect
Job Description:
DPP is seeking a Sr. DeltaV Controls Architect for a direct hire opportunity in Raleigh, NC. Role Overview We have a Sr. DeltaV Controls Architect opportunity available in Raleigh, NC. This role is a senior-level, hands-on automation engineering position focused on the design, implementation, and delivery of large-scale Life Sciences capital automation projects. The position requires deep technical expertise with Emerson DeltaV systems and a strong background in delivering cGMP-compliant automation solutions. The Senior DeltaV Engineer provides technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, collaborates directly with customers and internal teams, and serves as a subject matter expert in DeltaV system architecture, configuration, and deployment within regulated manufacturing environments. Technical & Solution Leadership Responsibilities The Senior DeltaV Engineer leads the technical design and implementation of DeltaV-based control systems for complex Life Sciences projects. Responsibilities include defining system architecture, control strategies, and automation standards that support efficient, compliant manufacturing operations. Key responsibilities include: Designing and implementing DeltaV control systems for complex Life Sciences capital projects Leading system architecture development and control strategies to support manufacturing efficiency and scalability Designing batch sequencing, phase logic, and recipe structures aligned with regulatory and operational requirements Developing DeltaV graphics using DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate in alignment with
ISA101 HMI
guidelines ing classbased design methodologies to promote standardization and reuse across projects Implementing advanced automation strategies including ISA88 batch processing, historian integration, and alarm management Troubleshooting complex automation challenges and driving continuous improvement in system performance Project Delivery & Execution While primarily a technical leadership role, this position supports successful project delivery through close collaboration with project teams and stakeholders. Responsibilities may include: Supporting development of project schedules, budgets, and resource plans Contributing to project execution planning and coordination Overseeing technical execution across project phases, from requirements through commissioning and validation Supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities through protocol development and execution Ensuring technical deliverables align with applicable standards and best practices, including GAMP5, cGMP, and 21 CFR Part 11 Systems Integration & Infrastructure Designing and implementing industrial networking solutions, including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus, and Foundation Fieldbus Integrating thirdparty equipment using protocols such as OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus Defining computing infrastructure requirements, including server architecture, virtualization, cybersecurity considerations, and redundancy planning Planning, specifying, and managing DeltaV system licensing based on project scope and user requirements Specifying and procuring instrumentation and automation hardware, including electrical and control system components Leadership & Collaboration Providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and crossdisciplinary project teams Collaborating with customers, internal stakeholders, and external partners to support successful project execution Supporting crossfunctional coordination between automation, electrical, and process disciplines Work Environment & Travel Raleigh, NC office presence is required Work is a combination of officebased engineering and onsite support at customer manufacturing facilities Travel up to 25 for commissioning, startup, and project support Occasional extended hours during critical project phases may be required Qualifications & Experience Required Experience 8-15 years of handson experience with Emerson DeltaV systems, with a strong focus on system design and project execution Extensive experience delivering automation solutions within Life Sciences manufacturing environments Strong knowledge of cGMP, GAMP5, and regulatory requirements applicable to biopharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing Technical Expertise Proficiency with DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate, including highperformance HMI design Strong experience with
ISA101 HMI
design principles Expertise in ISA88 batch processing and batch control system implementation Strong experience with classbased configuration and modular design approaches Knowledge of industrial automation protocols including HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, and IOLink Experience addressing industrial networking requirements between controllers, servers, and HMIs Experience integrating electrical and process control systems, including MCCs, VFDs, control panels, and power distribution Knowledge of server infrastructure and virtualization technologies for DeltaV system deployment Experience integrating OEM and thirdparty systems using standard industrial communication protocols Preferred Experience Exposure to additional
DCS/SCADA
