The Automation Engineer sits at the intersection of technology and business operations, designing and deploying intelligent automation solutions that deliver measurable outcomes - reduced costs, increased revenue, improved efficiency, and stronger controls. Working closely with stakeholders across lending, deposits, finance, compliance, and operations, as well as resources within Data & Engineering, this role translates complex business processes into production-ready automation using Python, AI/ML, APIs, and related platforms. This position works closely with business and operations partners, to identify automation opportunities and understand the desired outcome, keeping the business need and success criteria at the forefront of the priorities. The Automation Engineer will support multiple initiatives and cross‑functional teams, delivering production‑ready automations that integrate with existing systems, data platforms, and APIs.WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU
Design, build, and maintain end-to-end automation solutions using Python and related automation frameworks, integrating across systems, APIs, and databases. Apply AI-enabled techniques - including LLMs, NLP, rules engines, and predictive models - to enhance automation and decision support where appropriate. Monitor, maintain, and continuously improve deployed automations; ensure solutions remain reliable, secure, well-documented, and compliant with internal standards. Partner with business and operations teams to map current-state processes, identify automation opportunities, and quantify expected ROI (cost savings, revenue impact, FTE reduction). Develop business cases and roadmap inputs that rank initiatives by strategic value, implementation effort, and risk. Provide ongoing reporting on automation performance and strategy outcomes to senior management, surfacing trends and issues proactively. Leverage the Bank's data models, warehouses, and analytics platforms to support automation use cases and build predictive or classification models. Write efficient SQL queries and Python scripts to extract, transform, and analyze data from core banking systems and operational databases. Build dashboards and reporting to track automation KPIs (FTE savings, error rates, SLA compliance).Suggested tools:
Power BI, Tableau Participate in code reviews and collaborate actively with software engineering, data engineering, and BI teams. Contribute to shared automation patterns, reusable libraries, and best practice documentation for the team. Stay current with industry standards, automation trends, and emerging technologies; bring relevant advancements back to the team.WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU
Proficiency in Python or a comparable programming language for automation and data work. Solid experience with data - SQL, relational databases, data models, or data warehouses. Hands-on experience with automation frameworks or platforms (custom code, workflow tools, or orchestration engines). Familiarity with APIs, system integrations, and workflow orchestration. Ability to build maintainable, production-quality code; comfortable with version control, testing, and CI/CD practices. Ability to quickly become familiar with the Bank's database framework and core banking systems (e.g., Fiserv Premier or similar). Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and BI/visualization tools (e.g., Power BI). Ability to translate business processes and requirements into effective technical solutions. Strong project management and organizational skills; comfortable managing multiple priorities in an Agile environment. Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset - bring solutions, not just problems.Strong communication skills:
able to work fluidly across technical and non-technical teams at all levels of the organization. Process-oriented with strong documentation discipline; able to support cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment. Genuine curiosity and commitment to continuous learning - able to pick up new languages, tools, and domains quickly.Requirements:
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field required. 2+ years of experience in software engineering, automation engineering, or a related role Ability to translate business processes into technical solutions Strong communication skills and ability to work across technical and non‑technical teams 1-3 years experience in Fiserv Premier or similar Banking system preferred.Regulatory awareness:
BSA/AML, FFIEC, OCC
guidance, or Model Risk Management (MRM) preferred.INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS
Will interact with a broad range of Bank employees across seniority levels, including line-of-business managers, operations staff, technology and data engineering teams, compliance officers, and senior leadership. May interact with third-party vendors and technology partners as needed.WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
