Job Description
Job Description This role provides hands-on engineering support and technical leadership for plant automation, control, and instrumentation systems within a large, cGMP-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing facility undergoing significant expansion. You will troubleshoot and optimize moderately complex control systems, support capital and upgrade projects, and ensure that automation and instrumentation operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with regulatory and site standards. This position plays a key role in bringing new manufacturing lines and suites online and in driving continuous improvement across the site's automation infrastructure. Responsibilities Include Provide engineering support and leadership for plant automation, control, and instrumentation systems across the facility. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve moderately complex control and instrumentation issues to support safe, reliable, and compliant operations. Support the design, specification, installation, startup, and validation of capital and upgrade projects related to automation and control systems. Ensure all automation and control activities comply with site standards, cGMP requirements, and good engineering practices. Lead mid-level engineering projects, managing scope, schedule, budget, and stakeholder expectations from concept through implementation. Develop and implement robust control strategies in collaboration with Operations and Engineering teams to improve process performance and reliability. Maintain accurate system documentation, including as-built drawings, configurations, and control system records, to sustain a strong state of control. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, process automation performance, and system robustness. Research, evaluate, and recommend automation technologies, platforms, and equipment that support business and operational objectives. Develop and refine calibration procedures, preventive maintenance plans, and operational procedures for control systems and instrumentation. Program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to support new and existing manufacturing processes. Configure, program, and maintain Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to monitor and control plant operations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams during construction, demolition, and expansion activities to integrate new filling and compounding suites and manufacturing lines. Support network and system administration tasks related to automation systems, including Microsoft-based environments, where applicable. Skills & Qualifications 3+ years experience working with process control systems including instrumentation, automated control, and electrical distribution Experience in programming/troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) Experience in programming and configuration of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems Preferred Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred Experience working in chemical, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments Experience working with Allen-Bradley, Modicon, and Siemens S7 PLC platforms Familiarity with Wonderware products for SCADA and HMI applications Proficiency working with AutoCAD for creating and updating control system and instrumentation drawings Experience working with network and system administration of Microsoft-based systems Knowledge of Visual Basic and SQL for supporting automation-related applications and data handling Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bedford, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $43.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
