Our team designs and builds innovative conveyor and sortation systems that help customers optimize operations and scale efficiently. We are seeking a Senior Controls, Automation & Integration Design Engineer to lead the design and execution of automation solutions for conveyor, sortation, and material handling systems. About the Role This is a hands-on engineering role focused on the design, development, and integration of controls systems for high-speed conveyor and parcel sortation environments. You'll own projects from concept through startup — developing PLC/HMI logic, designing electrical controls, integrating WCS/WMS systems, supporting FAT/SAT, and troubleshooting during commissioning. This role is ideal for a senior controls engineer with experience in warehouse automation, parcel sortation, conveyor systems, or industrial automation who enjoys technical ownership and solving complex integration challenges. What You'll Be Doing Controls & Automation Design Design and develop controls, automation, and integration solutions for conveyor and material handling systems Create project-specific architectures for sortation, conveyor, and warehouse automation systems Interpret customer specifications, layouts, and interface requirements to develop complete automation solutions Size motors, drives, power distribution, and control components
PLC / HMI
Programming & System Integration Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and PC-based automation software Program and optimize logic for: Zone control & accumulation Merge, divert & routing logic Jam detection, fault handling & recovery Integrate systems with: Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) Third-party automation and OEM equipment Support integration of scanners, sensors, VFDs, encoders, servo systems, motors, safety devices, and industrial networks Project Ownership & Technical Leadership Serve as the Lead Controls Engineer on engineered-to-order automation projects Partner cross-functionally with mechanical engineering, software, manufacturing, project management, and field teams Mentor junior controls engineers and support technical problem-solving Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives Testing, Commissioning & Field Support Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) Troubleshoot controls and integration issues during startup and commissioning Provide technical support for panel builds, wiring, and system validation What We're Looking For Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline 5+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or system integration within material handling, parcel, conveyor, or warehouse automation environments Strong experience with
PLC & HMI
programming Experience integrating systems with WCS/WMS platforms Knowledge of industrial networking, VFDs, motion control, servo systems, and electrical controls Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software Familiarity with
NFPA 70, NFPA
79, and UL508A standards preferred Ability to manage multiple technical projects and solve complex automation challenges Preferred Backgrounds Candidates with experience at companies such as Dematic, Vanderlande, Daifuku/Intelligrated, Honeywell, Fortna, Swisslog, KNAPP, MHS, FORTNA, Symbotic, Bastian Solutions, or other material handling/system integration environments are encouraged to apply. #RTS6548
