Job Description

Position Overview The Network Engineer is responsible for maintaining established designs and maintaining and supporting IP infrastructure and access networks to enable delivery of the Cooperative's services (i.e. PSTN Switching, VoIP & Broadband Internet access). This position must be able to exercise judgment within constraints of accepted principles and practices. Decision making is made in conjunction with supervisors and management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supporting IP Infrastructure and Broadband Access Networks - 100% Maintains the established design and supports the Cooperative's core network infrastructure. Maintains both IP access networks and shared IP access networks. Maintains the established processes and works with wholesale service providers and enterprise customers to develop solutions as required on an Individual Case Basis (ICB). Maintains the established service levels for providing next level network support to the Cooperative's support work groups. Maintains technical process and network documentation, ensures high network uptime, and assists in product development. Maintains the established processes to research, identify, evaluate, and recommend network hardware purchases, equipment lifecycle management, network security practices, network capacity management, and performance monitoring solutions. Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed. Other Duties and Responsibilities Maintains a basic level understanding of the Company's products and services in order to potentially assist customers with basic questions regarding products and services. Actively participates in the performance management process which includes goal setting and identifying opportunities to learn, develop and/or improve skills. Proactively follows through on meeting performance objectives and expectations. Cooperates with others to achieve shared objectives. Demonstrates a positive attitude in daily interactions. Encourages positive relationships among the staff and promotes good morale in the workplace. Establishes and maintains good working relationships with personnel from other utilities and governing agencies. Attend meetings and other events as requested. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Certification level knowledge of network protocols (TCP / IP) and their troubleshooting processes. 2. Certification level knowledge of Ethernet, DHCP, Spanning Tree, VPN, BGP, NAT, IPv4, IPv6, DNS, 802.1Q, OSPF, and MPLS. 3. Certification level knowledge of networking solutions/technologies for business and home users. 4. Certification level knowledge of Windows and Linux. 5. Certification level knowledge of ping, traceroute, LAMP environment and Wireshark and other networking tools. 6. Certification level knowledge of virtualized server environments including VMware ESXi and Proxmox. 7. Certification level knowledge of Ciena transport equipment and technologies. 8. Familiarity with network SNMP management tools including PRTG & LibreNMS. 9. Experience with carrier-class transport equipment, including DWDM, xDSL and
FTTH. 10.
Proficiency in the use of MS Office 365. 11. Knowledge of basic AC-DC theory. 12. Ability to work effectively under pressure, in order to meet strict deadlines, and dynamically change priorities when deadlines conflict or change. 13. Must have time management and organizational skills and the ability to multi-task. 14. Possess strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. 15. Must demonstrate initiative and attention to detail, possess the ability to analyze facts, make recommendations, and manage projects independently. Must be able to diagnose and solve complex problems. 16. Requires the ability to work under minimal supervision and work flexible hours including extended hours as required. 17. Ability to respond to network emergencies and perform network maintenance outside normal business hours. Minimum Qualifications 1. Requires an associate's degree and a minimum of 3 years supporting service provider or ISP networks or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Requires a valid Oregon driver's license and the ability to maintain a valid license. 3. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and drug test Preferred Qualifications 1. Certification level knowledge of IP networks. Working knowledge service provider networks, protocols and equipment Work Environment The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Pay:
$73,000.00 - $92,000.00 per year
