Job Description

Controls and Automations Engineer Overview:
The GBS Group has an exciting opportunity for a Controls and Automations Engineer. As a Control and Automations Engineer with GBS, you will work both independently and with a team of designers and engineers on complex projects related to Naval ship platforms. The position will develop and design state of the art systems for implementation aboard US Naval Vessels. This will include prototype execution and demonstration, troubleshooting, installation support and coordination. Direct training of ships personnel and support staff and life cycle support functions will be accomplished. This position will also contribute real value by developing future systems for HM&E Machinery Control Systems for U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Army and Military Sealift Ships supported by the U.S. Navy. Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): Integrate, update, and upgrade machinery controls systems in support of shipboard equipment and machinery.

Design, simulate and test machinery control system to verify operation and software modifications.

Develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) software packages and equipment standards for machinery control systems.

Write PLC code to implement system design requirements.

Configure networks and computers on new and upgraded designs.

Assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and embedded computer systems.

Utilize electrical testing tools and devices such as multi-meters, megohmmeter, process calibrator, network test equipment, etc.

Inspect and survey existing ships and read and interpret original design drawings, technical manuals, and equipment specifications for incorporation into new designs.

Communicate effectively with software engineering, hardware engineering and program management.

Develop design specifications and other detailed documentation for new control systems and modernization efforts.
Qualifications:
Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications: Bachelor's Degree (or 5 years experience as a controls engineer with PLC experience in an electrical and computer related environment) in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university or equivalent field degree.
Desired Characteristics:
Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearanceProficient knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures associated with industrial control systems.

Proficient knowledge of electrical power systems, power control systems and generator control systems.

Software Development experience with Visual Basic, Ladder Logic, HMI Development)Siemens, Allen Bradley, GE, Opto 22 controls experience.

WinCC, Wonderware, FactoryTalk, Cimplicity HMI experience.

Ability to travel 20%.Active Secret Clearance preferred
