Job Description

Job Title:
Controls Engineer Job Description As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, programming, implementing, and servicing sophisticated automated controls systems from concept through commissioning and ongoing support. You will work closely with project teams and directly with clients to translate process requirements into reliable, efficient, and safe control architectures using PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial networks, and related automation hardware and software. This position offers the opportunity to work on varied projects, troubleshoot complex systems in the field, optimize performance, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that drive client success and operational excellence. Responsibilities Maintain proactive customer contact throughout the project lifecycle from concept to commissioning and post support, ensuring alignment, clear communication, and exceptional satisfaction. Design and engineer industrial process control systems by integrating new and legacy hardware and software to deliver reliable, scalable solutions tailored to client needs. Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair existing control systems onsite or remotely to diagnose issues quickly and minimize downtime. Program, configure, and debug PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, servos, VFDs, and networks with a strong emphasis on Rockwell/Allen Bradley platforms and exposure to others like Siemens or Ignition. Essential Skills PLC programming, specifically Allen-Bradley. HMI programming and SCADA systems expertise. Experience with servo motors and VFDs. In-depth knowledge of Rockwell Automation platforms, with familiarity with Siemens, Schneider, Wonderware, Ignition, or similar being a plus. Strong knowledge of industrial networking protocols, electrical schematics, and panel layouts. Understanding of UL 508A control panel standards and industrial control components. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Google Suite is beneficial. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills for independent troubleshooting in complex scenarios. Strong customer service focus with proven communication skills for client interaction and technical documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent design and programming experience. Minimum of 5-7 years experience in related fields. Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, DeviceNet. Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 10%. Work Environment This role will be split between working at customer sites throughout the metro roughly 30% of the time, and the other 70% can predominantly be spent working from home. The majority of the customers are in plant-based environments such as food processing, dairy, and beverage. Occasional out-of-state travel may occur, ranging from 5-10%.
