Job Description
This position is on site in Jackson, MI with the option of a hybrid schedule after a training period Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, the Network Engineer is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and securing the organization's network infrastructure and telecommunications systems. This role supports reliable connectivity, network security, and end-user productivity across all LifeWays locations. Key Responsibilities Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, VPNs, and telecommunications systems. Design and support secure network architectures including VLANs, routing, firewall policies, and remote access solutions. Manage enterprise networking and security platforms such as Meraki, Palo Alto, Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Active Directory, and related technologies. Monitor network performance, availability, and security; proactively resolve issues and support incident response activities. Maintain phone systems, mobile devices, telepresence systems, and ISP connectivity. Support disaster recovery, business continuity, and infrastructure planning initiatives. Provide Tier 1-3 technical support for network and infrastructure-related issues. Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and Help Desk records. Support compliance with HIPAA and organizational security standards. Assist with technology planning for building renovations and new construction projects. Travel between LifeWays locations as needed.
Required Education/Certification/Licensure Network Engineer I:
Associate's degree in computer-related field or equivalent experience. 1-2 years of experience in IT network systems support or engineering. Basic understanding of enterprise networking, relevant operating systems and the OSI model Network Engineer II:
Bachelor's degree in computer-related field or equivalent experience. 3-5 years of relevant professional experience managing and supporting enterprise IT network systems. Strong knowledge of networking protocols and operating systems. Experience configuring and managing VoIP and cloud phone systems. Strong understanding of networking fundamentals and troubleshooting. At least one (1) relevant certification (e.g., Network+, CCNA, Security+) Network Engineer III:
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related discipline. 6+ years of relevant professional experience in enterprise network architecture and administration. Strong knowledge of networking protocols, network hardware and network security technologies. Ability to identify, diagnose, and resolve complex network issues. Strong automation and scripting skills. Solid knowledge of networking, firewalls, load balancers, and security best practices. At least two (2) relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, Security+, Microsoft, or equivalent) Preferred Education/Certification/Licensure Certification CompTIA Network+ Certification Cisco Certified Network Associate Certification Cisco Certified Network Professional Enterprise Certification CompTIA Project+ Any Advanced networking or security certifications (e.g., CCNP, Palo Alto, CISSP, Azure Networking)
