Job Title:
Network Engineer Job Description We are seeking a skilled Network Engineer to develop embedded Linux software for network switch devices. You will build Linux images using Yocto or Buildroot, work with Linux drivers, and collaborate with hardware engineers to troubleshoot system-level issues. Responsibilities Develop embedded Linux software that runs on a custom kernel directly on a network switch device. Build Linux images using Yocto or Buildroot and deploy them to embedded network hardware. Develop and debug Linux drivers and networking-related software components. Work at the register level to interface with and control external hardware. Collaborate closely with hardware engineers to debug system-level issues. Use oscilloscopes and lab tools to probe boards and diagnose timing and synchronization. Support experimentation and rapid iteration in an R D-style environment. Contribute to system discussions around timing, synchronization, MAC behavior, and signal integrity. Essential Skills Familiarity with building Linux kernel. Proficiency in C/C++. Experience with Yocto / Buildroot. Knowledge of boot loaders like Redboot, Uboot. Ability to compile bootable software images and create images for boot loader, application, kernel, and file system. Experience with CMake environment for building large, complex software projects. Ability to work with Docker images/containers. Ability to deploy CI/CD systems to trigger automated builds/releases. General embedded MCU development (FreeRTOS). Experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and interpreting results. Familiarity with networking protocols such as gPTP. Experience in RF (MAC protocol, timing, synchronization, signal integrity). Additional Skills & Qualifications Exposure or experience with microchip iStax software. Work Environment This position offers a hybrid schedule, with Mondays and Fridays as work-from-home days, although on-site work may occasionally be required. You will be part of a close-knit, cross-functional team known for high problem-solving capabilities. Contribute to the development of next-generation micro-location platforms that will shape the future of mobility, retail, travel, and more. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Southfield, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $58.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
