Job Description
Description Meriton is seeking a Senior Azure Cloud Network Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of complex, enterprise-scale network solutions within Microsoft Azure. This role requires deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to drive cloud networking standards, security, and automation across the organization. - Microsoft Azure networking services (VNets, subnets, peering)
- Azure routing and traffic management
- Hub-and-spoke network architectures
- Hybrid connectivity concepts (ExpressRoute and VPN)
- Enterprise cloud network topology design Security & Compliance
- Azure Firewall and Network Security Groups (NSGs)
- Secure cloud network design principles
- Collaboration with cybersecurity teams on policy enforcement
- Familiarity with compliance considerations such as SOC 2 or CMMC (preferred)
- Network logging, monitoring, and security best practices Infrastructure as Code & Automation (Preferred)
- Exposure to ARM templates and/or Terraform
- Experience partnering with DevOps or automation teams
- Creation of reusable network templates and scalable deployment patterns Operations & Documentation
- Supporting live Azure environments during ongoing build-out
- Troubleshooting and resolving cloud network incidents
- Producing technical documentation, standards, and as-built diagrams
- Knowledge transfer and mentoring of internal engineers
- Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement Azure network architecture for a consolidated enterprise tenant
- Establish and document Azure networking standards and best practices
- Collaborate with cloud platform, cybersecurity, and automation teams
- Lead network-related components of Azure tenant consolidation efforts
- Provide operational support for Azure network infrastructure
- Mentor and educate internal engineering staff on cloud networking concepts

- Minimum Qualifications
- 7+ years of enterprise networking experience
- 3+ years of hands-on Azure cloud networking experience
- Experience operating in Senior , lead, or architect-level roles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, low-ego engineering culture
- Team Responsibility Delineation Senior Azure Network Engineer (This Role)
- Owns Azure network architecture for the enterprise tenant (design, standards, patterns)
- Designs hub-and-spoke topology, routing, segmentation, and connectivity models
- Defines network best practices for VNets, peering, routing, and traffic flow
- Implements and operates Azure network components (VNets, routing, firewalls, NSGs)
- Leads the network portion of Azure tenant consolidation initiatives
- Provides Tier-3 support for cloud network issues related to infrastructure
- Produces network documentation, diagrams, and standards
- Educates and upskills internal engineers on Azure networking concepts
- Partners with automation teams to enable Infrastructure-as-Code for networking
- Cloud Platform / Cloud Engineering Team
- Owns Azure subscriptions, tenants, and core cloud resources
- Manages compute, storage, and application infrastructure in Azure
- Leads tenant consolidation execution (inventory, migration sequencing)
- Provides application and workload requirements to inform network design
- Deploys resources using approved network standards and templates
- Operates day-to-day cloud workloads once network patterns are established
- Does not own network architecture decisions or advanced routing design
- Cybersecurity Team
- Defines security policy, compliance requirements, and guardrails
- Reviews and approves proposed network security designs
- Provides guidance on firewall rules, logging, monitoring, and compliance needs
- Owns audits, certifications, and regulatory interpretations (e.g., SOC 2, CMMC)
- Participates in security incidents only when required
- Does not build or operate Azure network infrastructure directly

- Lead the architecture and design of scalable, secure Azure network environments, including VNets, segmentation strategies, and IP address management.
- Own and design hybrid and multi-region connectivity solutions using VPN Gateway and ExpressRoute
- Establish and enforce network design standards, governance models, and best practices across cloud environments
- Collaborate with security architects and engineers to help infrastructure/platform teams establish foundational network security capabilities and define zero trust standards.
NIST SP 800-171.
They will include network standards, trust boundaries, segmentation, inspection points, logging, and approval gates.- Architect and implement advanced network security solutions including Azure Firewall, NSG's, Azure Front Door, Private Endpoints/Private Link, Secure DNS, ingress/egress control, SIEM, M&A Process, policy-as-code guardrails, WAF, DDoS Protection, and Zero Trust frameworks (traffic inspection, segmentation, end-to-end encryption).
- Design will support CMMC Level 2 (NIST
SP 800-171
) items such as default-deny segmentation, east-west traffic control, integration with SIEM (Rapid7) and incident response processes- Serve as the escalation point for complex network issues and lead root cause analysis for critical incidents
- Drive performance optimization strategies including load balancing, traffic routing, and global distribution (Traffic Manager, Front Door)
- Design and lead Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates to standardize deployments
- Partner with cloud engineers, security teams, and application owners to align networking solutions with business and technical requirements
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers
- Lead network-related change management activities, including participation in Change Advisory Boards (CAB) and risk assessments
