Network Engineer I (Fiber Network Engineering)
EPB
Chattanooga, TN 3rd shift

- Sunday night
- Thursday morning PURPOSE The Network Engineer I is responsible for performing maintenance and other activities as directed by Network Engineers using Methods of Procedure (MOPs) documents.
DUTIES & REPONSIBILITIES
Perform scheduled maintenance in overnight windows to support customer access to the network. Work on projects with technical staff in the implementation, installation, configuration, lifecycle, and technical support of network architecture. Develop and maintain system documentation, including diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs), MOPs, and other documentation required to provide technical support and engineering services. Sustain carrier-class consistency, predictability, and stability of all network devices and services supported by EPB. Be part of the team that designs, implements, and manages EPB's residential and commercial broadband services. Perform all necessary audits and maintenance activities to ensure service levels are sustained, optimized, and not compromised Perform after-hours support duties to sustain networking systems and service levels- 24/7/365.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelors Degree in a related technical field is preferred, and/or an equivalent of 4-6 years of experience in networking. Industry certifications (Network+, CCNA/NRS-1/JNCIA or equivalent) related to specific technical areas are preferred. Familiarity with one or more networking vendors (i.e., Nokia, Cisco, Juniper). Basic understanding of network security concepts, firewall configuration, routing, and switching. Basic network troubleshooting skills. Demonstrated ability to critically assess the results of tasks and directed checks to ensure successful outcomes.CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles. Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and time management skills. Detail-oriented with a critical degree of accuracy used to manage complex systems. A self-starter, able to work assigned tasks with minimal direction. May perform other duties as assigned. All employees, pursuant to their job duties, should demonstrate the behaviors of Professional Empowerment and comply with all EPB policies, standards, and guidelines. EPB provides electric and communications services, which are considered critical infrastructure by the Department of Homeland Security.
