  • Onsite Contract Work location: Ashburn,VA Role Summary This role supports production‑grade NPI (New Product Introduction) and Production Lab deployments, owning end‑to‑end execution for bringing up, expanding, and operating NPI infrastructure in Ashburn, VA and Santa Clara, CA.
The engineer partners closely with hardware, software, operations, and capacity planning teams to deliver reliable, production‑parity lab environments. NPI / Production Lab Execution (Core Responsibilities) Execute onsite builds and expansions of Production NPI environments, including: Rack/stack coordination Infrastructure bring‑up Validation and operational handoff Meet physical requirements of the role: Lift 40-50 lbs Stand for extended periods Work safely on ladders Drive deployment plans, cutovers, and upgrades with: Detailed documentation and execution runbooks Checklists and Methods of Procedure (MOPs) Peer reviews and change approval processes Risk management and rollback planning Coordinate across cross‑functional teams and external vendors Manage dependencies Resolve blockers quickly to keep deployments on schedule Data Center Network (DCN) / Fabric Engineering (Core) Build, configure, and troubleshoot data center network fabrics (e.g., spine‑leaf / Clos) Strong understanding of server and switch architecture Operate and troubleshoot Layer 2 / Layer 3 networks, including:
BGP / MP
‑BGP
EVPN / VXLAN
Interior Gateway Protocols (e.g., OSPF where applicable) Perform network migrations, hardware refreshes, and software upgrades with minimal disruption Optical Switching, Cabling & Physical Layer (Core) Configure, deploy, and troubleshoot optical switching platforms, such as: Calient Telescent Work with multi‑vendor optics and cabling, applying best practices for: Fiber handling Fiber inspection and cleaning Physical‑layer troubleshooting Use optical diagnostic tools, including: OTDR Optical power meters Interpret transceiver diagnostics:
DOM / DDM BER
Signal loss and impairment Test, Validation & Commissioning Execute lab and production acceptance testing for new deployments and upgrades Validate performance using traffic generation and test tools, such as: IXIA Spirent TestCenter Test and verify: Throughput Packet loss Latency Failover and resiliency behavior Support regression testing and repeatability by documenting: Test plans Execution steps Results and observations Manage inventory and asset tracking, including: Switches, optics, patch panels, and cabling RMA processes Inventory reconciliation and audits Observability, Monitoring & Incident Triage Implement and utilize network monitoring and telemetry solutions to ensure reliability and fast troubleshooting, using: gNMI‑based telemetry (preferred) IPFIX / NetFlow / sFlow Syslog and SNMP Active probes (ICMP, RPM / IP SLA‑style) Actively triage monitoring alerts during: Deployments Cutovers Break/fix events Participate in incident response, escalation paths, and post‑deployment stabilization Support deployments during planned maintenance windows, which may include evenings and weekends Required Qualifications Hands‑on experience delivering and troubleshooting network infrastructure in lab and/or production environments Minimum several years of relevant experience in: Network engineering Infrastructure deployment Strong knowledge of data center networking concepts and operational troubleshooting Familiarity with a subset of the following (depth varies by focus area): DC fabric architectures (spine‑leaf / Clos) Routing and switching fundamentals
BGP, EVPN/VXLAN, OSPF
Telemetry‑driven troubleshooting and incident response Hands‑on experience with: IPv6, DHCPv6, SLAAC Optical transceivers (SFP+, QSFP, OSFP) Cabling types (DAC, AEC/AES, fiber) Understanding of server architecture and hardware components Strong cross‑functional coordination skills Clear written and verbal communication
