GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Provides information technology training and support for NHREC staff at three campus sites- Woodside Lane, Kiln Creek, and Yorktown Middle School. Performs basic hardware and software troubleshooting, and assist with appropriate network management and troubleshooting. Performs similar tasks at the Butler Farm site as requested and in absence of the Network Administrator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Receives, reviews, and prioritizes work orders for technology support and performs maintenance, installation, and training tasks as required. Provides troubleshooting assistance for all applications, software products, and related hardware. Manages Active Directory forest and tree organizational units, user accounts, passwords, Group Policy, and file-level permissions. At times, performs after-hours system support during scheduled and unscheduled outages and standard monthly patching requirements. Implements, installs, configures, monitors, troubleshoots, and evaluates both physical and virtual servers, and enterprise applications. Responsible for documenting the configuration of managed servers and services. Provides on-site training and assistance for instructional and administrative applications. Conducts specialized technology classes tailored to various applications. Evaluates new technology, and evaluates and prioritizes requests for new applications and enhancements to existing systems. Participates in the evaluation and purchase of new equipment, software, etc. Maintains detailed records of training sessions and participants, and assesses the effectiveness of training.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge and demonstrated competence in computer technology troubleshooting, maintenance, and installation. Good knowledge of the applicability of computer information systems to a variety of situations and processes. Good knowledge of TCP/IP, data portability and upload and download techniques, and how to import/export data within various software packages. Good knowledge of Internet /intranet-related services and how they can be applied to assist schools and offices. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work with school staff with minimal supervision. Ability to develop training materials and user manuals. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with technical staff and other employees. Ability to travel to all school sites and work a flexible schedule to fulfill job responsibilities.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Associate degree in a computer-related field, including or supplemented by technical training in PC/LAN applications and the use of computer productivity tools, plus some experience providing technical assistance to users. Demonstrated proficiency in PC/LAN-based software packages; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above-noted knowledge, skill, and ability.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license with a good driving record.
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES
Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring and indicator lights. Ability to lift, carry technology equipment, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. Sufficient agility and manual dexterity to install, test, and operate computer equipment, often requiring working in limited space, under desks, and on ladders. Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to operate required installation, and maintenance tools.
HAZARDS/ UNUSUAL DEMANDS
The position requires some local travel. Some tasks may involve stressful situations, meeting deadlines, and frequent interruptions. Exposure to normal, everyday risks in a school setting.
