Hardware Systems Administrator (Linux) Sunnyvale CA 6-12 months Position Summary We are seeking a hands-on Hardware Systems Administrator with strong Linux administration skills, scripting expertise, and experience installing, configuring, and supporting server hardware and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining physical and virtual Linux environments, troubleshooting hardware issues, automating administrative tasks, and ensuring system reliability and performance. Key Responsibilities Install, configure, and maintain Linux-based servers and operating systems in physical and virtualized environments. Perform server hardware installation, upgrades, diagnostics, and maintenance, including CPUs, memory, storage, network cards, and rack-mounted systems. Monitor system performance, capacity, availability, and security across enterprise infrastructure. Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash, Python, Shell, or similar scripting languages. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, operating system, networking, and application-related issues. Configure and support storage systems, RAID configurations, and backup/recovery processes. Perform system patching, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation activities. Support server deployments, data center operations, and hardware lifecycle management. Maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and operational standards. Collaborate with network, security, and application teams to ensure stable and secure infrastructure operations. Required Qualifications 5+ years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator, Infrastructure Administrator, or similar role. Strong experience with Linux distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, Ubuntu, or Rocky Linux. Experience with server hardware installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Proficiency in scripting and automation using Bash, Shell, Python, or Perl. Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing. Experience with storage technologies, RAID configurations, SAN/NAS environments, and backup solutions. Knowledge of system monitoring, logging, and performance tuning. Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and support critical production environments. Preferred Qualifications Experience with data center operations and rack-and-stack activities. Exposure to automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform). Knowledge of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. Linux certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, or LPIC. Experience supporting high-performance computing (HPC) or AI/ML infrastructure is a plus. Nice-to-Have Experience supporting GPU-based servers, AI infrastructure, or high-performance computing environments. Familiarity with Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Supermicro, or similar enterprise hardware platforms. Experience working in data center or laboratory environments.
