The core responsibilities include designing, deploying, and troubleshooting VMware vSphere environments, alongside administering both Windows and Linux operating systems The successful candidate is a team player, able to effectively manage their time, willing to learn new technologies, and work with limited supervision. In addition, the qualified candidate will work with other Information Technology team members to ensure continuous network operations. This is a contractor position supporting a federal government contract. Core responsibilities and duties, day-to-day activities include: Manage the administrative and design tasks for virtualized server infrastructure, which includes deploying, configuring, and maintaining the VMware environment. Design, deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot VMware vSphere infrastructure, specifically performing capacity planning and health checks for ESX hosts and virtual machines. Install ESX Servers, vCenter Server, and vSphere Client, and create datastores for data and VM storage. Configure Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) and High Availability (HA), utilize vMotion, manage backups, and perform physical-to-virtual (P2V) and virtual-to-virtual (V2V) conversions. Deploy virtual machines, manage templates, clones, and snapshots, and migrate VMs across hosts within HA clusters for maintenance purposes. Perform high-level daily operational maintenance and complex software installations for operating systems, workstations, and servers, continually monitoring and tuning them to achieve optimal performance. Administer and integrate Linux platforms and Windows systems, including Microsoft Active Directory. Proactively identify vulnerabilities and perform software and hardware upgrades, such as installing Windows server patches and hotfixes. Collaborate with Network Engineering, Security and other System Administrators to determine and develop systems for implementation. Evaluate new products, recommend updates and provide customer support.
Qualifications Requirements:
A minimum of 12 years of experience supporting server virtualization technology, with experience in VMware systems. Must possess a Data Center Virtualization certification or equivalent experience Bachelor's Degree preferred Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or green card holder who has resided in the U.S. for at least 3 years and the ability to obtain a public trust. Must be able to complete "eApp National Background Investigation Services (NBIS)" form. Preferred Demonstrate solution-focused and team-oriented resourcefulness with a strong ability to problem-solve, "think outside of the box," multi-task, and remain calm under pressure. Provide imaginative, thorough, and practicable technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Possess a complete understanding of technical principles in the field, along with expertise in disaster recovery planning, remote access, network security, and enterprise systems management. Demonstrate strong technical proficiency across operating systems, including VMware and VMWare management configurations, Windows Enterprise Servers (multi-versions new and old) and Linux (Red Hat and other Linux vendors). Maintain extensive knowledge of enterprise hardware and storage arrays, specifically Dell Unity. Exhibit working knowledge of using enterprise backup tools like CommVault, Veritas NetBackup, and Veeam Backup.
Target salary range:
$40,001 - $80,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
