Description We are looking for a Network Administrator to provide hands-on support for a complex enterprise network environment in East Lansing, Michigan. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who is detail oriented and can independently manage network operations, address security-related issues, and maintain reliable connectivity in a fast-paced setting. The role will focus on troubleshooting infrastructure, implementing configuration updates, and contributing to key network segmentation and migration initiatives while supporting day-to-day operational stability.
Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across firewalls, switching infrastructure, VLANs, and subnet configurations to maintain dependable network performance.
  • Implement and manage network configuration updates, including changes related to segmentation, routing, and access controls.
  • Oversee a blend of network administration and security support activities such as environment monitoring, incident response, and firewall coordination.
  • Deploy standardized configuration changes from centralized management platforms across distributed network components.
  • Provide operational network coverage and technical support during a period of reduced internal staffing.
  • Contribute to a project that separates the environment into distinct science and business network segments.
  • Assist with infrastructure setup, transition planning, and technical execution required for a dual-network architecture.
  • Support firewall platform migration efforts involving the transition from Juniper solutions to Palo Alto technologies.
  • Carry out configuration rollouts and infrastructure migration tasks while minimizing disruption to business operations. Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience configuring and troubleshooting firewall technologies in enterprise environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of switching, VLAN design, subnetting, and general LAN administration.
  • Hands-on experience with Juniper and Palo Alto network security platforms.
  • Proven ability to investigate and resolve network issues efficiently in operational environments.
  • Background supporting network segmentation, infrastructure migrations, and firewall or switch implementation work.
  • Ability to work independently with limited documentation, training, or direct oversight.
  • Comfortable responding quickly to issues in a 24/7 support environment.
  • Linux experience is a plus, along with familiarity with wireless access points and network monitoring tools.
