Express Employment International is seeking a skilled Power i System Administrator to join our team in Oklahoma City, OK. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing and maintaining IBM Power i/ISA Power 10 (formerly AS/400 or iSeries) systems in a multi-user environment. This role will involve collaborating with various teams to ensure the smooth operation of our Power i infrastructure, implementing system enhancements, and providing technical support as needed.
Responsibilities:
Manage and administer IBM Power i systems, including hardware, operating system, and related software. Install, configure, and maintain Power i hardware components, peripherals, and associated devices. Monitor system performance, capacity, and security, and implement appropriate adjustments and enhancements. Perform system backups, disaster recovery planning, and routine maintenance tasks. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in a timely manner. Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate Power i systems with existing infrastructure and applications. Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and IT staff on Power i-related matters. Implement and manage Power HA (High Availability) solutions for system redundancy and failover protection. Configure and maintain IBM i Access (formerly known as Client Access) for remote access and administration. Manage and operate the Hardware Management Console (HMC) for Power i systems. Document system configurations, procedures, and best practices. Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends related to Power i systems. Participate in on-call rotation and respond to system emergencies outside of regular business hours as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Power i System Administrator or similar role. Proficiency in administering IBM Power i systems, including IBM i OS, hardware management, and related technologies. Strong knowledge of IBM Power Systems architecture, virtualization, and storage concepts. Experience with system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning. Familiarity with backup and recovery procedures for Power i systems. Experience implementing and managing Power HA solutions for system high availability and disaster recovery. Proficiency in configuring and maintaining IBM i Access for remote access and administration. Experience managing the Hardware Management Console (HMC) for Power i systems. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Relevant certifications (e.g., IBM Certified System Administrator - IBM i) preferred.
