Server Administrator (Windows / VMware) -

12‑month contract with strong extension potential Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Server Administrator to support a Windows‑heavy, on‑premise environment during a critical organizational and systems transition. This role will play a key role in maintaining server stability, patching cadence, and operational readiness while legacy systems remain in place ahead of a larger platform migration. The environment is stable but complex, and dedicated server ownership is essential to reduce security risk and maintain uptime through an extended transition period. Key Responsibilities Administer and support Windows Server environments (2008-2022) Own monthly patching cycles, including planning, execution, validation, and issue remediation Automate server reboots and startup procedures, including handling service dependencies Create and maintain shutdown, reboot, and recovery documentation Perform ongoing "care and feeding" of on‑prem servers: Monitoring Troubleshooting Maintenance Performance optimization Execute server‑related update and stabilization projects to maintain reliability until future system migrations are completed Support cross‑functional initiatives as needed, including: Active Directory administration Backup processes Desktop automation tasks Required Skills & Experience Strong Windows Server administration experience (patching, support, configuration) Hands‑on experience with VxRail and/or VMware Horizon Experience automating server reboots and operational processes Solid Active Directory experience Comfort working in on‑prem, Windows‑centric environments Nice‑to‑Have / Secondary Skills Linux server exposure (not required, but a plus) Broad IT skillset and willingness to assist outside strict server boundaries Work Environment & Context The organization is in the middle of a large‑scale transition, with many legacy systems remaining operational through at least 2026 A Technology Services Agreement (TSA) remains in effect, and major platform replacements are not expected until 2027 This role is critical to ensuring security, stability, and operational continuity during the transition Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Wilmington, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
