None Summary :
Under the limited direction of the IT Director/Assistant Director, the System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of system hardware and software-related infrastructure. This person is responsible in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the County infrastructure. This person is responsible for all county data backup procedures and policies.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Duties may include, but are not limited to: Installation of servers, computers, printers, phones, and related equipment. Hardware configuration, cabling, and network connections. Installation of software and software configurations. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures. Research and recommend innovative approaches, where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Perform daily monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs and verifying completion of scheduled job such as backups. Perform daily backup operations ensuring all required file systems and system data as successfully backed up to appropriate media and sent off site as necessary. Perform regular file archiving and purge as necessary. Create, change and delete user accounts per request. Repair and recover from hardware and software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted departments. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Maintain asset management software. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, resource optimization as required. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning. Assist in maintaining and developing the County website. Perform system administration, including enrolling users, defining network security, creating directories and performing software updates. Provide limited training for employees regarding hardware and software. Serve as help desk support for end user questions and problem resolution. Ability to install cable and connectors. Ability to install and configure computer hardware, network connections and any software required by end user. Duties as assigned by the IT Director or Assistant Director.

Maintain confidentiality of all County information not considered to be public information. Good interpersonal and customer skills. Be punctual with good time management. Multi-task, prioritize and handle frequent interruptions. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing so as to allow comprehension by receiving party. Work within statutory guidelines established by state and local government. Communicate and interact with other departments, local government, state agencies, federal agencies and the general public. Follow safe work practices including workplace safety policies and procedures. Ability to lift 10 to 25 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time as well as walk, stand, kneel, push, crawl, reach above shoulder, grasp, pull and bend repeatedly Possess a valid Texas driver's license.
Education Level and Experience :
High school diploma or GED supplemented by 3 years of on-the-job experience in the Information Technology field. Industry certification preferred
