Required Qualifications:

Five years of professional experience in network administration, network engineering, or closely related enterprise network infrastructure work. Professional experience administering enterprise routing and switching infrastructure in a production environment. Professional experience with dynamic routing protocols, such as BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, or EIGRP. Professional experience supporting enterprise wireless networking technologies. Professional experience supporting network security technologies, such as firewalls, IPS/IDS, network access control, Cisco ISE, segmentation, or related security platforms. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting data center network infrastructure. Experience with network fabric technologies, such as EVPN/VXLAN, Cisco SDA, ACI, virtualized routing, or comparable fabric-based architectures. Experience supporting MPLS, VRF, SD-WAN, or complex WAN routing environments. Experience with Cisco ISE, NAC, 802.1X, device profiling, guest access, posture, or network segmentation. Experience with network automation using Python, Ansible, APIs, Git, configuration management systems, or similar tools. Experience working in higher education, government, large enterprise, healthcare, or another complex multi-site environment. Current or prior network-related certifications, such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, CWNP, Aruba, Ruckus, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or comparable credentials. Job Description Texas State University is hiring a Sr. Network Administrator to help design, operate, secure, and modernize the university's multi-campus network infrastructure. This is a senior technical role responsible for supporting enterprise wired, wireless, data center, security, and wide-area network services used across the university. The position works with a broad range of network technologies, including routing and switching, network fabrics, data center networks, wireless infrastructure, SD-WAN, network security platforms, Cisco ISE, monitoring systems, and automation tools. The successful candidate will be expected to provide technical leadership, solve complex problems, contribute to network architecture decisions, and help deliver infrastructure projects from planning through implementation. About the Job Texas State University operates a large, heterogeneous network environment supporting academic, administrative, residential, research, and campus life services. The network includes equipment and platforms from multiple manufacturers, including Cisco, Juniper, HP/Aruba, and Ruckus Wireless. The team emphasizes reliable service delivery, standards-based design, operational consistency, security, documentation, and continuous improvement. This role will have meaningful technical ownership in the operation and evolution of the campus network. Responsibilities include both hands-on administration and higher-level engineering work, such as developing standards, improving network reliability, leading technical projects, mentoring other staff, and coordinating with vendors and campus stakeholders. Job Duties Design, administer, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure, including campus routing and switching, wireless, data center networks, network fabrics, WAN/SD-WAN, and related services. Support network security and access control platforms, including Cisco ISE, network segmentation, authentication/authorization policies, and related security integrations. Diagnose and resolve complex network incidents affecting wired, wireless, data center, WAN, and security services. Lead and support network infrastructure projects from planning through implementation, including design, change coordination, testing, documentation, and operational handoff. Develop and maintain network standards, diagrams, procedures, configuration templates, and operational documentation. Monitor network performance, availability, capacity, and reliability; identify trends and recommend improvements. Automate network operations using scripting, APIs, configuration management tools, monitoring platforms, and AI-assisted workflows where appropriate. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and vendor coordination; participate in a shared after-hours on-call rotation, currently one week every six weeks.
