6 Newport News, VA Job Details Full-time 2 hours ago Qualifications PTCB Certification High school diploma or GED Hospital experience Full Job Description Newport News, Virginia Overview The Pharmacy Purchasing Technician is responsible for ordering, receiving, stocking and distribution of pharmaceuticals and related supplies while maintaining budgetary goals of the organization. The position continuously monitors stock levels in accordance with best practice, established standards and accrediting and regulatory licensing requirements. The purchaser pro actively monitors drug shortages to assure adequate pharmaceutical supplies are available for patient care needs. What you will do Create and place daily orders for pharmaceutical products and supplies. Actively receive and stock orders and distribute items in accordance with established replenishment levels. Continuously monitor and return overstock and outdated products to vendor. Assist with overall inventory management. Prepare for and participate in annual physical inventory process. Verify cycle counts are completed in accordance with department policies. Maintain stock in compliance with established minimum/maximum best practice. Work to establish and maintain best in class inventory levels. Process department charges for RHS outpatient clinic. Maintain interdepartmental charges on an ongoing basis. Compile end of month summary of purchases, interdepartmental charges, erecovery and waste for submission to finance/pharmacy leadership. Proactively identify and correct pharmaceutical price updates in the pharmacy operating system Assist in the maintenance of product during drug shortages. Proactively monitor for drug shortages with timely communication to pharmacy leadership. Proactively recommend alternate selections. Perform purchasing functions in a manner that brings financial benefit to the department. Ensure purchasing complies with 340B contract. Proactively identify and suggest for alternate product selections and/ or increased efficiencies to asset reduction in operating expenses through reduction in prices and maximization of contract savings. Maintain and prepare pharmacy analysis reports as requested. Track daily/weekly inventory levels with communication to pharmacy leadership of variances. Track purchase of high cost drugs monthly, with report forwarded to pharmacy leadership prior to end of month. Maintain compliance with 340B standard operating procedures (as appropriate to facility). Complete 340B university. Complete annual 340B education. Maintain inventory and records for 340B purchases in a manner compliant with organizational policy and procedure. Monitor compliance of 340B purchases by outpatient areas. Maintain compliance with Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA). Ensure purchases are only with validated trading partners that are compliant with DSCSA documentation requirements. Maintain records in manner compliant with DSCSA and departmental policy and procedure, and that are readily retrievable if requested on audit. Develop, demonstrate and maintain a current knowledge of the supply chain process. Recommend work flow improvements to increase productivity of pharmacy and hospital staff. Identify and actively improve pharmacy supply chain work flows. Provide support to pharmacy teams at other health system facilities, as needed Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED, (Required) Program Graduate, Pharmacy Technician Training Program or equivalent (Required) Experience 1 year Pharmacy or Hospital Purchasing experience (Required) 3-4 years Hospital Pharmacy Technician experience (Required) Licenses and Certifications Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
