Job Description

We serve well-respected manufacturers and other industrial and military players across various applications such as metrology, high-power and medical lasers, as well as industrial data transmission. While addressing the American market, within the global business group, our Williamsburg, VA site is an integral part of a worldwide engineering, manufacturing, and sales team with co-workers in Europe and Asia allowing for innovative and customer-specific solutions. Job Summary We are seeking an experienced IT Systems Administrator to serve as the sole on-site IT owner for our Williamsburg facility, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role: you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the site's IT environment — from day-to-day support and device management to planning, deploying, and documenting new systems and applications. A Managed Service Provider (MSP) is available for specialist escalation, security monitoring, and patch management. You will serve as the primary point of contact for all local IT matters as well as interface directly with Corporate IT in Germany. Primary Responsibilities / Job Duties Systems Administration & Infrastructure Own and administer the on-premises server environment, including two Hyper-V virtualization hosts and FileMaker database servers (administration and client management) Manage endpoint devices through Microsoft Intune in a Hybrid Active Directory domain Administer user accounts, group policies, access controls, and security configurations Maintain network infrastructure including switches, and VPN connectivity Coordinate with the MSP on security monitoring, patch management, and escalated incidents End-User Support & Device Management Provide hands-on support for computers, mobile devices, printers, and peripherals across a manufacturing environment Configure and support specialized equipment workstations as required for manufacturing operations Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity Serve as the primary IT resource and liaison for all departments on-site Project Planning & Documentation Lead the planning, procurement, implementation, and rollout of new systems, software, and applications from end to end Produce written procedures, runbooks, and documentation for all systems and processes Maintain accurate hardware and software inventories, licensing records, and user access documentation Research and manage hardware and software purchases Security & Compliance Handle ITAR-controlled data and systems in accordance with applicable regulations and company policy Maintain strict confidentiality of all data processed, stored, or accessed on the network Ensure endpoint and infrastructure security in coordination with the MSP Required Knowledge and Abilities 5+ years of progressive IT experience in a systems administration or senior IT support role; experience as the primary or sole IT resource for a site or small organization strongly preferred Strong working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy Experience with Microsoft Intune and Hybrid AD environments Hands-on experience with Hyper-V or comparable virtualization platforms Demonstrated ability to independently plan and implement new systems or applications, including writing technical documentation Proficiency with networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VPN, patch cabling (Cat5/Cat6/RJ-45) Proficient in Microsoft 365 and Windows OS CompTIA (Net+, Sec+) or Microsoft certification, or equivalent demonstrated experience Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to support non-technical users effectively Successful candidate must be a U.S. Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting manufacturing environments or specialized equipment workstations Familiarity with FileMaker / Claris server and client administration Experience working with or coordinating an MSP Background in multi-site or internationally connected IT environments If you enjoy working with other professionals in a collaborative and solution-oriented culture, we encourage you to apply.
