System Administration Senior Specialist Join our team as an IT System Administration Senior Specialist with the Division of Information Technology (DIT) in Seattle, where you will play a key role in supporting and advancing the technology infrastructure that powers critical services across DSHS. In this senior-level position, you will help manage and maintain systems, servers, datacenter operations, networking, and Cloud environments while ensuring the security, availability, and integrity of agency data and applications. You will serve as a technical leader and escalation resource for IT staff, support innovative Cloud and infrastructure initiatives, and help guide the management of mission-critical systems that enable DSHS to fulfill its mission of partnering with people to access support, care, and resources. Some of what you'll do: Administer and support complex infrastructure across on-premises and Cloud environments, ensuring high availability, security, integrity, and performance of mission-critical systems. Implement and maintain enterprise servers, virtualization platforms, networking, storage, backup, and Cloud-based infrastructure solutions. Research and evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and best practices to improve infrastructure reliability, scalability, automation, and operational efficiency. Gather business and technical requirements, develop strategic plans, and implement solutions aligned with agency technology standards and operational goals. Lead technical initiatives involving system integration, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management for enterprise applications and infrastructure. Provide advanced technical expertise to identify risks, resolve complex infrastructure issues, and recommend innovative solutions supporting agency operations and data protection. Collaborate with business partners, IT teams, vendors, and leadership to develop policies, procedures, standards, and strategies for enterprise and Cloud-based solutions. Serve as a senior technical resource and escalation point by mentoring staff, providing technical direction, and supporting decision-making on complex infrastructure projects and issues. Develop documentation, presentations, and training materials while promoting knowledge sharing, process improvement, and adoption of new technologies across the organization. Desired skills, knowledge, and abilities: Strong knowledge of enterprise systems administration, Cloud computing, infrastructure operations, networking, and systems management best practices. Experience supporting and troubleshooting servers, workstations, peripherals, software, and enterprise technology environments. Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, mentoring, and team-building skills within a fast-paced IT environment. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects under pressure. Experience presenting recommendations, influencing decisions, and driving adoption of new technologies and process improvements. Self-motivated with strong business acumen, sound judgment, negotiation skills, and the ability to work independently while delivering results. Who should apply? We are searching for professionals who meet one of the following qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a closely related field and seven years of professional IT experience performing duties related to designing, managing, operating, and maintaining enterprise servers, backup solutions, storage systems, datacenter infrastructure, networking, development, scripting, and automation. OR An Associate's degree in Information Technology or a closely related field and nine years of professional IT experience performing duties related to designing, managing, operating, and maintaining enterprise servers, backup solutions, storage systems, datacenter infrastructure, networking, development, scripting, and automation. OR Eleven years of professional IT experience in areas such as IT consultation, systems administration, infrastructure support, troubleshooting and problem resolution, systems analysis, application support, database support, programming, or enterprise systems design and maintenance.
