POSITION SUMMARY:
The Systems Administrator will test, implement, support, secure, and monitor all functions relating to the efficient operation of company's enterprise servers based on Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and the VMWare vSphere virtualization platform.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
(This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job's overall responsibilities) Assist with implementing and maintaining Microsoft Windows servers running Exchange, SQL Server, IIS, Threat Management Gateway, Citrix and other enterprise computing services. Provide analysis, diagnostics and resolutions to system faults in the server environment. Perform regular maintenance tasks including: creating new network accounts and security groups, adjusting disk space restrictions, monitoring server backups, reviewing security logs, and building/upgrading existing servers. Implement and maintain the company's VMWare vSphere virtualized server farm. Implement and maintain the company's physical servers, including blade systems. Implement and maintain the company's fiber channel SANs (Storage Area Networks), NASs (Network Attached Storage) and other storage systems. Implement and maintain corporate backup and disaster recovery procedures. Assist with recommending, designing and installing new server environments, and interfacing with 3rd party vendors for supported applications. Support daily operations of communications software and hardware including: faxing, IM (Microsoft Skype), email (Microsoft Exchange), and Video Conferencing (WebEx) Implement and utilize tools to maintain and monitor the corporate infrastructure. Ensure the corporate computer hardware and software is in place to meet the on-going needs of all users. Stay current on industry trends and direction and make recommendations toward continuous improvement of systems. Provide 2nd-level support to the Help Desk to resolve user problems. Other duties as directed.
JOB SCOPE
This position works within established parameters, but does on occasion use sound judgment to make decisions in line with job authorities. The role is responsible for ensuring a high level of server availability and for computing infrastructure security. A failure to provide high level of server availability or security could result in significant costs for the business, unrecoverable data loss, lost revenue, and missed contractual obligations.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS
The person communicates both verbally and written with IT team members, internal customers, and external customers. The incumbent negotiates server and other computing infrastructure hardware and software costs with vendors. He/she provide direction to consulting partners and oversight of their work. The individual provides regular verbal and written status reports to manager, IT team members, internal and external customers.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must work effectively in a team setting, and be able to mentor junior members and cross-train on various disciplines. Support server hardware, experience required or willingness to learn specifically with HP Blade Servers and HP Storage Area Networks. Minimal level of experience with networking and Cisco hardware preferred, but not required. Knowledge of computer hardware (x86/x64, Macintosh), operating systems (Windows, VMWare) and supporting enterprise application systems. Ability to define problems, collect data, determine facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to prioritize tasks in an environment of changing time constraints and multiple priorities. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, staff, internal and external customers, vendors, and consultants. Strong informal influence skills; the ability to succeed in accomplishing tasks when the performers are not necessarily in the direct line of authority. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Requires a degree of creativity and latitude.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
4 year degree in computer science or related field is strongly preferred but not required. Minimum two (2) years of direct Windows system administration and network administration experience is preferred utilizing the following; VMWare ESX server, TCP/IP, MS Server, MS Exchange, MS Threat Management Gateway, MS SQL Server, IIS, MS client operating systems, 802.11b/g wireless, MS Office, and have working knowledge of VMWare ESX Server, Linux and PIX firewall. Experience with Cisco routers/switches a plus, but not required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS
Current MCSE or MCITP is a plus, but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. The individual may be required to be in production areas in yard and onboard ships. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. The person must be able to climb inclined stairways. The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist when installing hardware and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Good finger, hand and wrist dexterity required for extensive computer operations. The person must have good hand-eye coordination and may spend extended time sitting in front of a computer terminal. He/she may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work. There may be local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 10% of the time with notice. While in production areas, will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts and odors.
