About the role Role Description, Skills, Experience and Qualifications required Overview The Quality Systems Specialist supports the Quality and Food Safety Management Systems by maintaining inventory control systems, monitoring production processes, and ensuring compliance with GMPs, sanitation, and food safety standards. Reporting to the Sr. Quality Manager this role plays a key part in internal audits, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Quality Systems Specialist collaborates with cross-functional teams and acts as a resource for quality-related issues across the site. Key responsibilities Responsibilities- Support and promote compliance with Food Safety, GMP, HACCP, SQF, and applicable Kosher and Halal requirements across the site. Act as a knowledgeable resource for Food Safety and Quality Management System expectations and serve as a back‑up SQF Practitioner as needed.
- Support, monitor, and help oversee site food safety and quality training programs to ensure employee compliance with SQF, GMP, food safety, quality, Kosher, and Halal requirements. Assist with training content, documentation, tracking, and verification of training effectiveness.
- Maintain and support food safety and quality systems and documentation, including batch record review, FSQA record management, environmental monitoring programs, Intelex system utilization, and SAP quality setup for new commercialization's.
- Support internal, external, customer, and third‑party audits (including SQF, Kosher, and Halal audits as applicable) by assisting with audit readiness, documentation review, identification of gaps, follow‑up on findings, and development of corrective and preventive actions (RCA/CAPA).
- Serve as an internal GMP and quality system resource by performing inspections, documenting observations, presenting findings, and assisting functional teams in addressing product non‑conformances, customer complaints, and operational quality issues.
- Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, R D, supply chain, and other functional teams to clarify procedures, support training and knowledge gaps, resolve quality questions, and encourage consistent application of food safety and quality standards.
- Provide remote support to the Rhinelander QA team and participate in a rotating schedule of quarterly on‑site visits to assist with training, audits, certification activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support site quality initiatives and performance monitoring, including Golden 6 program oversight, KPI tracking and reporting, and participation in daily Tier 2 meetings.
- Act as a back‑up to Quality Supervisors when needed by providing continuity of support, task reporting, participation in interdepartmental teams and projects, and assistance with daily FSQA activities as assigned.
- Any other duties as assigned by supervision. Qualifications and skills Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of quality systems and food safety.
- Familiarity with current GMPs, HACCP, and SQF.
- Computer literacy.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in interdepartmental teams.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Preferred Qualifications
- College degree in a relevant field is strongly desired.
- 2-5 years of experience in food production or a food quality control lab setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Intelex, and SAP. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in both office, plant, and laboratory settings within a liquid smoke food manufacturing facility located in Manitowoc, WI.
- Exposure to a hygienic production environment with airborne food-grade powders; appropriate PPE is required, including safety glasses, lab coats, gloves, hairnets, beard nets, hard hats, and steel-toed shoes.
- Regular physical activities include use of hands, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and occasional stooping or kneeling.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb stairs as needed.
- Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear and communicate verbally in a production and lab environment. Additional Information
